Jimmy Kimmel Reveals He Was Told About His Suspension From ABC in a Bathroom Before Taping His Show!

Late-night star Jimmy Kimmel has opened up about the shocking moment he learned that ABC had indefinitely suspended both him and Jimmy Kimmel Live! — and it all went down in the most unexpected place: a bathroom.
During his guest appearance on the Sept. 30, 2025 edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS, Kimmel recalled the surreal hours before the bombshell announcement.
📞 The Call That Changed Everything
“It was an emotional roller coaster. I know you hear that a lot. It really was. It was very strange,” Kimmel began.
According to the host, he received a call from ABC executives just 90 minutes before he was supposed to tape that night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
With the weight of the news about to crash down on him, Kimmel admitted he needed somewhere private to take the call.
So, where did he go?
Not his office. Not a quiet hallway. But instead — the nearest bathroom.
🚽 “I Needed Privacy”
Kimmel told Colbert he ducked into the restroom, locked the door, and braced himself for the news.
“I just thought, if I’m going to hear something this big, I don’t want my staff staring at me while I react. I needed privacy,” Kimmel explained.
The irony wasn’t lost on Colbert, who cracked jokes about the dramatic, yet hilariously unglamorous, setting.
🎭 A Moment of Surreal Comedy
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Kimmel himself poked fun at the bizarre circumstances.
“I mean, can you imagine?” he laughed. “One minute you’re about to tell jokes about Taylor Swift or Trump, the next you’re sitting on a toilet lid getting suspended from your own show.”
The Late Show audience erupted in laughter, though the underlying tension was clear.
📺 What’s Next for Kimmel?
ABC has yet to provide a clear explanation for the indefinite suspension, leaving fans and critics alike speculating about whether Kimmel will return or if the network is preparing for a larger shake-up in its late-night lineup.
For now, Kimmel seems to be taking it in stride, showing his trademark ability to turn personal crises into comedy gold.
As Colbert summed up with a grin:
“Only Jimmy Kimmel could make a bathroom suspension story sound like a late-night monologue.”
