WUTHERING Heights fans have spotted a glaring blunder in the new big-screen adaptation – just as it smashes box office records.

Eagle-eyed viewers were quick to point out the mistake after flocking to cinemas, with many asking: did you catch it?

The original novel Wuthering Heights was published by Emily Brontë in 1847, but the story itself is set much earlier – beginning in 1801.

Heathcliff’s arrival at Wuthering Heights takes place in 1771, with the new film adaptation wrapping up events in 1784.

But sharp-eyed fans have pointed out that Belgium – referenced in the movie – wasn’t founded until 1830, decades after the timeline in which the story unfolds.

Taking on Reddit, one fan wrote: “In Wuthering Heights, Isabella, when talking to Cathy, boasts about dresses from France, Italy and… Belgium.

“This makes no sense as Belgium did not exist as a state until 1830, almost half a century after the events of the film take place.”

Despite the major blunder, the UK ranks Wuthering Heights among the top-grossing films of the year, with strong ticket sales behind it.

The new adaptation has been a major global box office hit, raking in £56million on its opening weekend.

It is now grossing around $152 million worldwide since its release – comfortably recouping its roughly $80 million production budget and marking it as one of 2026’s most successful films so far.

Director Emerald Fennell’s movie adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic 1847 novel centres on the intense, passionate and often destructive bond between Catherine Earnshaw and her childhood friend Heathcliff.

Jacob Elordi, who plays Heathcliff, reveals there was ­sizzling chemistry between him and Margot Robbie, who plays love-struck Cathy, from the moment they met.

He said: “It’s like, ‘Action’ and it’s like a horse at the race track – straight out of the gates.”

But he insists that sex scenes are actually “no different to choreo- graphing a fight scene or a dance sequence”, explaining: “It’s super- technical, especially the scene where, it’s not a sex scene, but where I’m on top [of Margot] with my hands – that’s choreographed because, in that –kind of light, you only have so much space to move.

“So what you do has to fit in the frame and work with the lighting.”

He added: “If you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie, you’re going to make sure you’re within five to ten metres at all times.”

Margot agreed in an interview that the film is “horny from the off”.

Meanwhile, saucy thrill-seekers are getting frisky in the wild countryside that inspired Wuthering Heights.

Raunchy couples are flocking to the rugged moors described in Bronte’s book.

The picturesque village of Haworth, West Yorkshire, has become a magnet for many who seek bodice-ripping alfresco fun.

The hill-top village has been listed on adult websites as a favourite spot for anonymous car romps — ever since Margot and Jacob starred in the Hollywood movie.
