Yungblud, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, Black Sabbath keyboardist Adam Wakeman and the band then performed the track, followed by Black Sabbath’s Changes.

The Aerosmith duo of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry joined the action for Mama, I’m Coming Home.

Ozzy became a household name on MTV – also the home of the VMAs – with his family’s hit reality series The Osbournes, which ran from 2002 to 2005.

That same year, the Prince of Darkness cemented his legacy with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

As the tribute ended, the performers yelled ‘Ozzy forever, man!’

Ahead of the tribute, Yungblud shared the news on Instagram on Friday, posting several sweet black-and-white photos of himself with the rock legend.

Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Harrison, had a very strong relationship with Ozzy after meeting him in 2022, and it appeared that their relationship grew into an almost father-son type bond.

Yungblud reportedly gave a moving reading at his funeral.

He also performed at the metal icon’s farewell concert at Birmingham‘s Villa Park in June amid his declining health.

Now, the rock star is preparing to honour his idol on one of music’s biggest stages.

Announcing the tribute on Instagram, Yungblud wrote: ‘They’ve asked me to pay tribute to you at the @vmas on Sunday night. I’ll try my best to do you proud Oz. Tune in from up there. I love you forever.’

The news comes after Yungblud revealed the devastating way he learned of Ozzy’s death as he opened up about their close friendship last month.

The singer said he was texting Ozzy just before the rocker’s son, Jack Osbourne, messaged him to say ‘he’s gone’.

He told The Sun: ‘The past couple of weeks have been very weird to connect with. You get to know someone personally, who you love. And then they leave.

‘I was texting him, then his son Jack text me and said “He’s gone”. I’m like, “What?”‘

Speaking about the emotional but warm service at the funeral, Yungblud said he was overwhelmed with the amount of ‘authentic love’ in the room.

Last month, Yungblud shared a picture of the gift the rocker gave him before he died, hours after he gave a reading at the funeral at his home in Buckinghamshire.

He took to Instagram to share a close-up snap of the cross necklace Ozzy gifted him in 2022, during the filming of his The Funeral music video.

Yungblud later returned the favour by gifting Ozzy a custom-made cross necklace before Black Sabbath’s final show.

He wrote in the caption: ‘goodnight oz. your light will forever shine. I love you,’ with fans noting in the caption that Ozzy has ‘passed the torch of darkness on’ to Yungblud.

Yungblud previously revealed that the gift from Ozzy was the ‘most precious thing’ as he paid a ‘truly heartbroken’ tribute to the rocker.
