Harris Faulkner and Marie Harf were not exactly seeing eye-to-eye about Governor Gavin Newsom.

On Outnumbered on Friday, October 31, the panel began a conversation about what former Vice President Kamala Harris and California Governor Newsom, 58, said about former President Joe Biden. Harris told Daily Show host Jon Stewart, on his “This Week’s Show” podcast on Thursday, October 30, that she believes Biden was “fully competent to serve.” Then a clip of Newsom speaking with ABC News correspondent Jonathan Carl on Wednesday, October 29, as he praised Biden.

Newsom told the reporter that he will continue to build the legacy of Biden and claimed that the 82-year-old politician “is one the most successful presidents in the last century.” Newsom insisted that he would defend that claim to his grave.

The panel on Outnumbered discussed Harris and Newsom. Harf offered her perspective, particularly on what Newsom said.

“Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris did two different things there. Gavin Newsom was defending Joe Biden’s policies, and whether or not you agree with them, he was saying, ‘I would want to build on that legacy.’ And for many Democrats, [it’s] growing the middle class, manufacturing jobs,” she said.

Faulkner at one point asked Harf is she was endorsing Newsom

Faulkner interrupted, saying, “You know that the public doesn’t even see it that way, does that work for him?”

Harf said she agreed with Faulkner and that she thought Gavin “would prefer he was never asked Joe Biden again,” but the media is asking about him.

“Gavin Newsom is trying to do something very smart, he is trying to talk about the future, and he wasn’t wound up in Biden’s world,” the 44-year-old Fox News contributor added. “He wasn’t the VP, he wasn’t one of the top people out there defending him. he is taking on Trump every day in a very Trumpian way.”

Faulkner chimed, asking, “Are you endorsing him?” Harf responded that she wasn’t endorsing Newsom, adding, “but he is the Democratic leader right now, I see that has the most fire—”

Faulkner interjected incredulously before Harf could finish, “Wait, Gavin Newsom is the Democratic leader. He should go to Capitol Hill and talk to the Democrats about the shutdown.”

Harf said she would “make the case” with House Minority Leader Hakeen Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Then she went back to clarifying how she was going to complete her previous statement.

Harf said, completing her former thought, “Gavin Newsom is the Democratic leader who is best taking on Trump aggressively and making the case to the American people about how dangerous Trump’s administration is and is doing it in a way that sounds like a real human being and doesn’t sound like manufactured talking points.”

The 60-year-old Faulkner Focus host could not believe Harf’s statement. She exclaimed, with a laugh at the end. “Wow, that’s a sentence I’ve never heard before. Gavin Newsom sounds like a real human.”

Harf defended Newson, saying he does sound like a human being.

“Look, he’s doing it better than any Democrat. It sounds authentic, he’s talking about ideas, and he doesn’t sound like [these] manufactured talking points,” she added.
