Fox News host Jesse Watters on Tuesday delivered a gleeful breakdown of President Donald Trump’s “crew,” ascribing some rather baffling characteristics to members of the current Cabinet — and a now-viral description of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“Rubio is, like, your Mexican friend that, like, works a lot, but is, like, really funny,” he said.

The secretary of state is, of course, not Mexican at all. Rubio was born in Florida to Cuban immigrants who came to the U.S. in the 1950s. He spent his entire political career in the Sunshine State before joining Trump’s Cabinet. Legions of social media critics noted the discrepancy.

“These people are truly dumb racists.. Cuban and Mexicans are the same people now,” wrote one user on X, formerly Twitter, with another stating: “If there was even a shred of dignity left on Fox News, Jesse Watters would be escorted out of the building by security.”

Watters and his co-hosts on “The Five” were discussing the ongoing affordability crisis, which Trump raised in a speech Monday at the McDonald’s Impact Summit after repeatedly dismissing it as an issue, when Watters dove into his jubilant take on Trump’s Cabinet.

Presumably inspired by the subject of the summit, Watters recalled a moment aboard Air Force One last year when Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was not yet confirmed as health and human services secretary, ate McDonald’s alongside Trump. The co-host said: “I like how he tried to make Bobby eat the Big Mac.”

“You always have that friend that you try to make them eat stuff just to see if he would puke,” said Watters. “He’s got a crew of guys. Bobby is the guy you give stuff to see if he will yak. [Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is] the guy that likes to blow stuff up.”

Hegseth is currently spearheading a U.S. military campaign that has blown up alleged drug smugglers on their boats in Pacific and Caribbean waters since September. The strikes have killed more than 70 people without due process or congressional authorization.

“[Vice President] JD Vance is, like, the poor kid who is, like, really smart,” said Watters.

He described Trump as the “rich kid with the mansion and all the toys” who invites all his friends over to have “a big adventure.”

The president’s critics certainly find his actions to be more serious. Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has pushed out more than 200,000 federal workers, halted diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, cracked down on immigration with brutal raids, and more. Adding to the concerns, late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein wrote in an email in 2019 that Trump “knew about the girls” he was abusing.

Watters was apparently attempting to make a point with his cartoonish descriptions, namely that this “great crew” needs to stick together ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. His egregious characterization of Rubio has certainly united critics on social media.
