Meghan Markle has been likened to Sarah Ferguson with her latest career move.

The duchess is reportedly set to make a return to acting, several years after quitting the profession to become a member of the royal family.

Last week, it was reported that Meghan, 44, will be making a return to Hollywood with a role in a new film, titled Close Personal Friends.

The movie stars Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Brit Henry Golding.

The duchess is reportedly set to play herself in the movie briefly.

Meghan’s return to Hollywood reflects her inability to deviate from Sarah Ferguson’s post-royal playbook.

Meghan hasn’t acted in eight years since quitting Suits back in 2017. However, she is believed to have been on set for the movie in Pasadena, LA, for filming of the Amazon MGM Studios production.

“This is a massive moment for Meghan. And it signifies a return to doing what she truly loves,” a source allegedly told The Sun.

“She has been swamped with offers. But this one felt right.”

The source explained it was Meghan’s way of “putting her toe back in the water” to see how she feels about being “back on a set”.

Meghan likened to Sarah Ferguson with latest career move

However, not everyone is excited to see Meghan on the big screen.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has likened the duchess’ latest career move to something Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson would do.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Kinsey said: “Meghan’s return to Hollywood reflects her inability to deviate from Sarah Ferguson’s post-royal playbook. Both women have written children’s book, hosted podcasts, appeared on reality television, lifestyle television, and collaborated closely with Oprah Winfrey.”

“Fergie has produced Hollywood films, Meghan is producing Meet Me at the Lake. Fergie played herself in an episode of Friends, Meghan is now playing herself in Close Personal Friends. When Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties, they promised a life of service, but like Fergie, much of it reads as self-service,” she then continued.

Meghan’s latest move could be a ‘win’ for duchess

However, Kinsey did admit that this reported move by Meghan could be seen as a “win” and a “branding move”.

“If the script pokes fun at Meghan and she manages to be self-deprecating, then this could be a win, but if she digs her heels in when it comes to the Duchess of Sussex title or takes herself too seriously… she is opening herself up to criticism,” she explained.

Meghan gave up her acting career when she got engaged to Prince Harry. But before she met Harry she had been in a number of films, including Horrible Bosses and Remember Me.

But one of her most known roles was in TV legal drama series Suits. She played Rachel Zane.
