On a frosty Saturday morning, a familiar face was back at the touchline. Following a whirlwind adventure Down Under, Angry Ginge went on to win I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.
Born and raised in Salford, the Twitch streamer made history during his time in the jungle, after his win declared him the first ever social media star to be crowned King of the Jungle. He spent three weeks in the ITV jungle, joined by former EastEnders actress Shona McGarty and Celebs Go Dating star Tom Read Wilson.
This weekend saw his return to his coaching duties for his team, Winton Wanderers FC as they beat rivals, Little Lever at the Ginge Power Stadium in West Houghton. And it was clear to see how the 24-year-old was as much of a winner off the pitch as he was on it.
Taking time after the game to meet with his young fans, sign autographs and take selfies, he was ever the humble and friendly young lad we saw on our screens. At one stage, one young boy said he had a ‘present’ for him, before flipping him a hand gesture. In jest, Ginge responded in similar fashion.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, he was asked how it felt to be home. He said: “Absolutely buzzing to be back. Over the moon. Ecstatic. I’ve missed so much in life, the one thing I miss – apart from your friends and family and all that – is football. It’s so good to be back.”
Asked whether his win Down Under had sunk in yet, he replied: “Every day when I go on TikTok, it’s just edits of me, Lisa, Ruby, Aitch and all that, so, no, I don’t think it’ll ever sink in. It’s just unthinkable that me, who tweeted about it 12 years ago and I’ve gone on to not only go on it but to win it. I don’t think it’ll ever sink in.”

In response to being asked if he missed being in the Jungle, he laughed and said: “Do I miss being in the jungle? I miss the people. The actual jungle I can live without for the rest of my life. But I do miss everyone in there.”
And finally, asked what was the bigger win for him – today’s one-nil lead or being crowned king of the jungle, he said: “It’s tough that because we’re on for a very good season. But I say at the minute, until we win the league, the Jungle.”
