A beloved noughties comedy has just been added to Netflix and it’s already flown up the chart.

A “masterpiece” romantic comedy film first released in 2008 has swiftly ascended the top 10 chart just days after being added to Netflix.

The star-studded feel-good film was a massive success at the box office over a decade and a half ago, and years on, millions of fans still regard it as a classic of the genre.

Katherine Heigl takes the lead in 27 Dresses as Jane Nichols, a young woman who has been a bridesmaid 27 times, yet has been unfortunate in love herself.

When her sister, Tess (portrayed by Malin Åkerman), reveals she’s engaged to the man Jane has secretly loved for years, she grudgingly agrees to organise their wedding, not anticipating to find love herself along the way.

Also featuring James Marsden, Judy Greer, and Edward Burns, the film was introduced to the streaming platform last Friday and rapidly became a hit with subscribers over the weekend. It currently holds the fifth spot on Netflix’s film chart, outperforming other popular titles such as KPop Demon Hunters and The Fall Guy, reports the Mirror.

One enthusiast gushed in a 10/10 review on IMDb: “Favourite movie. Cured my depression. Absolute classic. The bar scene is unmatched. A masterpiece honestly. Kevin is sexy. I watched it 3 times today.”

A rom-com sceptic confessed they were “proved wrong by my girlfriend when refusing to watch this movie thinking it would be another lame corny romance.

“However, it turned out to be a great movie that I really enjoyed watching from start to finish.

“This is a very good movie and I like it very much. It definitely EARNS ten stars and deserves a watching.

“This is the kind of upbeat, joyous nonsense that you can watch hundreds of times over just to savor the best scenes,” someone else agreed, calling it a “terrific rom-com”.

The acclaim extended to Letterboxd, where one viewer declared: “WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE OMG, I truly didn’t expect it. I don’t know how I left it on my watchlist for so long, one of my new favorite romcoms.”

Another remarked: “One of the best romcoms I’ve ever seen. People need to start making films like this again.

“What kind of person would I be for rating this anything less than 4 stars considering how many iconic scenes are in this?” a further user wrote.

Whilst a final admirer enthused: “I used to love this film so much and it still stands as one of the best romcoms ever. The plot is paced so well with some cute moments and some that make you want to rip your eyes out in terms of second hand embarrassment and awkwardness. The drama is so real here.

“AND IT HAS A MONTAGE, so you know it is good! The Benny and the Jets scene is also so fun and is engraved into my mind, probably because both of the actors are stunning and I would marry both of them.”
