And on that farm there was a … celebrity!
While these stars are often seen surrounded by the glitz and glam of Hollywood, when they’re at home with their animals, they’re not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get back to nature.
From Chris Pratt’s full working farm in Washington state to Amanda Seyfried’s upstate New York escape surrounded by donkeys, horses and a bearded dragon, see all the celebrities who enjoy the affection — and the eggs! — from their farm animals.

Over the last several years Arnold Schwarzenegger’s collection of farm animals has grown to include mini horses, pigs (including Arnold Snortzenegger, who recently accompanied him to a premiere) and a donkey.
“He has totally embraced this new kind of act of life,” his son Patrick said during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Literally! With Rob Lowe. “It’s just … Doctor Doolittle meets this mid-life crisis, but happiness and calmer side of life. It’s really funny.”

In a video shared to Instagram in January 2018 as part of a mini food series he dubbed “What’s My Snack?,” the Guardians of the Galaxy actor shared that he had “been farming lamb for the past six months,” and added that his son Jack was enjoying it too: “I have found a new passion to add to my many others. #farmlife and jack loves it!”
In the years since, Pratt has continued to give a look at his farm in Washington state, Stillwater Ranch. From photos of son Jack helping to feed the cows to bragging about the wool sheared from his champion sheep to eulogizing his 700 lb. pig, Pratt (with his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger) is committed to that #farmlife — something he has in common with his father-in-law, Arnold!

Ellen DeGeneres
Gregg DeGuire/FilmMagic; Ellen DeGeneres/Instagram
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi are long known to be animal lovers, which is a good thing, because their new home in the British countryside has plenty of four-legged and feathered friends on site.
“We have house sheep,” DeGeneres posted about the many animals sharing her property in the Cotswolds.
Having previously shared videos about the massive upkeep on their property (“Some people have a dream of becoming a farmer. Clearly our dream was to become a landscape maintenance crew with a little farming on the side”) DeGeneres told fans that the sheep were brought in to help keep up the lawn, but “they keep escaping” — and visiting her house, apparently!

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry
The Ellen Degeneres Show
In their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave fans a quick glimpse of “Archie’s Chick Inn,” their chicken coop that houses hens rescued from a factory farm named for their son Archie.
“Hi, girls!” Meghan said during the interview as she opened the door to the coop. She added to Winfrey, “I just love rescuing.” (And in fact, she rescued and rehabbed one of Ellen DeGeneres’ injured chickens!)
Markle also shared on her show With Love, Meghan that she maintains a large garden and beehives, from which she sources many ingredients for her family’s meals.

At home at Cantitoe Corners in Katonah, NY, situated on 153 acres, Stewart has her Chow Chow dogs, French bulldogs, Bengal cats, peacocks, chickens, horses, donkeys and geese.
But Stewart doesn’t just play at the farmer lifestyle — she actively plants and harvests her fruits and vegetables, drives heavy machinery around her multiple properties, and cares for the animals like her horse Bond, pictured above.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood enjoys all her Nashville farm has to offer, including the ability to grow her own produce (which she cans herself) and to welcome livestock (as pets!) to her home — including a sweet baby sheep born in 2025 that she named for the latest American Idol winner, Jamal.
“Meet the newest members of the EH-OK Farm Fam!” Underwood wrote on Instagram in 2023 about a trio of donkeys (pictured with sons Jacob and Isaiah). “We’ve got a (pregnant) mama, a daddy and a little dude! In a little bit, 2 of them will go live with some friends down the road, but we promise to have lots of family reunions!!!!”
Underwood previously told ET Canada she was obsessed with her unique 2020 Christmas gift from husband Mike Fisher: two cows! “They’re my favorite animal. I love them, they make me so happy,” she said at the time, adding, “I don’t want them for any purpose, just to love them.”

Jennifer Garner
Jennifer Garner/Instagram (2)
Over the years, Jennifer Garner has dubbed herself the “chicken lady,” as she was the proud owner of chickens, including Regina George, who sadly passed away in 2018, as well as Hennifer, who she introduced to the world in May 2018. She celebrated National Farmer’s Day in 2024 with a hair-raising encounter with one of her flock.
But Garner doesn’t just keep a coop in L.A. She bought her family farm in Oklahoma in 2017, and uses the crops grown on that land to contribute to her Once Upon a Farm line of food.

Just relax, let everything go,” he told PEOPLE in 2023 of life on the ranch. “Sit your f—ing phone down and just sit back and relax. Let’s feed the cows some carrots. Let’s talk to the horses. Let’s fish for four hours. Let’s do that. Let’s do that.”

Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick
Footloose star Kevin Bacon isn’t kid-ding around when it comes to farm life: Back in 2021, Bacon would often share clips of him serenading his pet goats on the farm he shares with wife Kyra Sedgwick in Connecticut, in a series on social media he matter-of-factly dubbed “#GoatSongs.”
More recently, Bacon shared a video of himself, Sedgwick and their daughter Sosie Bacon dancing and singing a rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please, Please, Please” surrounding by their animals.

“It was my dream,” she said. “I love animals and I love to be surrounded by them, and I wanted space. I love the countryside and the forest. I grew up in suburbia. I always wanted to ride horses and we didn’t have the funds to do that. I do ride horses now.”
In 2024, Seyfried told Forbes that moving to her farm in upstate New York — and remaining there after having children — “was the best decision for privacy, peace and nature.”
The star’s farm is now home to horses, chickens, cats, goats, donkeys, ducks, a bearded dragon and of course, her teenage dog Finn.

“I raised them inside my house for about six weeks, and then it was time for them to have a coop,” she told the outlet, adding that her chickens’ home was a replica of her own. “Martha Stewart said it best: Chickens just give, give, give, and there’s nothing bad about them,” Richie gushed. “They are the easiest animals to take care of, they are so much fun for kids, and they just give me beautiful colored eggs every day.”
In 2021, Richie took PEOPLE inside the coop and said she loves to “read in there … and just hang.” She added, “they’ve definitely changed my life.”

Nikki Reed & Ian Somerhalder
The Twilight alumna and husband Ian Somerhalder adopted two baby cows in 2021 after a trip to a local farm where their daughter Bodhi, bonded with the animals.

Lily is the girl and Mooso is the boy … My daughter was so attached to Lily, and I wasn’t expecting to walk away with cows at all! So that was the start of the journey.”

Just before Christmas in 2021, it appeared as though his hopes had come alive when he posted this shot getting up close and personal with a llama in a post he captioned: “Kiss-mas came early for me this year…”

As part of his quieter life outside of the hustle and bustle of a city, Malik said he had six chickens, three dogs, three cats and three turtles. When asked if he’s named them all, Malik said “No, I haven’t. Not this time. I got too attached last time and it made me really sad.”
Malik went on to explain that after bringing one of his former chickens to the vet and later having it die in his arms, he’s had to keep a little bit of emotional distance from his new brood.
“I’ve got new chickens now,” he added. “And they’re all healthy and stuff, but I didn’t name them for that reason.”

Tori Spelling
Tori Spelling has shared lots with fans about her family’s chicken coop (and has taken her chickens to award shows), and in 2017, revealed that she had added a new member to her family: a pig named Nutmeg.
In 2023, the star’s ex-husband Dean McDermott said that the pig and chickens were contributors to the unraveling of their marriage, saying that the pig and multiple dogs were sleeping in their bedroom and a chicken lived in the bathroom.
“I created a healthy boundary for myself and I said, ‘I can’t do this. I can’t live and sleep in this kind of condition,’ ” he told the Daily Mail. “I drew that boundary for myself and moved to another room and things just progressed from there. There were no efforts to sort of remedy the problem to get back into the room.”
