Film fans have only just realised that award-winning director Quentin Tarantino has remade an iconic film into ‘hidden’ mini-series on Netflix.

In 2019, Quentin Tarantino released his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Since then, the acclaimed director has not decided on what his 10th film will be, after having previously said it will be his last ever one.
But it seems the well-acclaimed film maker is continuing to postpone his final film project, as he has recently brought a play to London’s West End, which is expected to open in late 2026, or sometime in 2027.
Some fans have also only just realised he has done extra work on one of his previous films, as they have now spotted an exclusive extended version of it, which has been remade into a four part mini series on Netflix.
Taking to Reddit’s ‘True Film’ forum, one user went on to share their surprise after having stumbles across the series by accident.
“Quentin Tarantino and his new Netflix series (or very long film),” the title of the post read, as the Reddit user went on to explain they spotted an extended version of one of Tarantino’s films now on Netflix.
They explained: “Recently I read an article about QT doing a limited series for Netflix… I thought no way he would do that… and then I discovered through this article he did an extended version of THE HATEFUL EIGHT for Netflix… done in the style of a miniseries…”
The Hateful Eight is a 2015 American Western mystery thriller film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, which he originally announced as a sequel to 2012 film Django Unchained before deciding to make it a standalone film.
It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, and Bruce Dern as eight dubious strangers who seek refuge from a blizzard in a stagecoach stopover a decade after the American Civil War.
Surrounded by the unforgiving snow storm in Wyoming, the hateful eight must endure each other until the storm weakens. The group includes John “Hangman” Ruth (played by Kurt Russell), a celebrated bounty hunter.
The other is Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), his prisoner and wanted for murder. Along with them are also fellow bounty hunter, Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L Jackson), and Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins).
While the standard version of the film is 168 minutes, or two hours and 48 minutes long, the four-episode mini series on Netflix is an extended version of the film with a total runtime of approximately 210 minutes, or three hours and 30 minutes.
After watching the Netflix version, the Reddit user said: “I just finished watching it and I must say I love this version and it made me consider the possibilities… meaning instead of ‘director’s cut’ versions of great films how awesome it would be to see other films done in the limited series format on a streaming service…”
Other people agreed, as some claimed it made watching longer films ‘more bearable’, as one user commented: “I had the exact same feeling after watching The Hateful Eight with my girlfriend. No way I’m convincing her to watch a 3-hour film… but a 4-part miniseries? Much more palatable format when deciding to hit “play,” and you get to see more of the minor details they originally wanted to include with an extended director’s cut – win-win!”
However, someone else criticised it and said: “It seemed like most of the extra run time was just the credits at the beginning and end of each instalment. I don’t know why they couldn’t have just released a longer cut of the movie, serialising it really killed the movie’s momentum for me.”
