The Formula One legend suffered a traumatic brain injury during a tragic skiing accident on December 29, 2013
F1 legend Michael Schumacher set his wife a heartbreaking message just hours before his tragic skiing accident in 2013.
With a record seven World Drivers’ Championships and 91 Formula One Grand Prix wins, there can be no doubt that Schumacher is one of the greatest drivers of all time.
After over two decades of racing, Schumacher decided to call time on his historic career following his final race at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix on November 25, 2012.
Unfortunately, just one year after his retirement, the German driver was involved in a devastating skiing crash on December 29, 2013, leaving him in a coma having sustained severe head trauma.
Just hours before the accident, Schumacher had been texting his wife Corinna, who revealed that the Formula One icon had sent a truly heartbreaking message shortly before the life-altering crash.

Immediately after the crash, Schumacher was airlifted to hospital before being placed in a medically induced coma until June 2014.
Since then, the German racer’s family has revealed little about his condition, protecting his privacy with only a small inner circle of close confidants allowed to see him.
But one thing that is abundantly clear is that Corinna has stood alongside her husband, caring for him ever since the horrific crash.
In 2021, a Netflix documentary titled ‘Schumacher’, was released, in which Corinna made several contributions, including revealing that her husband had messaged her just hours before the crash to say that he was considering not skiing at all.
Corinna said: “Shortly before it happened in Meribel, he said to me: ‘The snow isn’t optimal. We could fly to Dubai and go sky diving there’.
“I have never blamed God for what happened. It was just really bad luck, all the bad luck anyone can have in life. It’s always terrible when you say: ‘Why is this happening to Michael or us?’ But then why does it happen to other people?”

Corinna also opened up about how difficult it has been for her and the rest of the Schumacher family to come to terms with the tragic accident and why they’ve decided to keep details of his condition private.
She continued: “Of course, I miss Michael every day. But it’s not just me who misses him. The children, the family, his father, everyone around him. I mean, everybody misses Michael.
“No matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will.
“We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives.
“‘Private is private’, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible.”
