Lando Norris continues to face jeers from the crowd despite his recent success.

Racing Bulls have condemned a video in which an individual in team uniform gave a thumbs-down gesture to the Brazilian Grand Prix crowd while Lando Norris was celebrating his win on the podium. The British racer has received some fan backlash in the form of boos when standing on the podium or giving interviews on the grid over the past few race weekends. While the reason for the jeering is unclear, it is believed to stem from the McLaren team orders incident at the Italian Grand Prix.
Norris was booed once again when he stepped onto the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace podium last Sunday. The Bristol-born racer completed a clean sweep of the Brazilian GP weekend, scoring both pole positions and winning both the sprint and Grand Prix. Not everyone was in the mood to celebrate his latest triumph, though.
“We’re aware of the video from the weekend’s podium,” the team shared from their official X account. “It doesn’t reflect our team’s values or the spirit of VCARB. The matter has been handled internally. We believe in celebrating great racing and showing respect to every driver, team, and fan both on and off the track.”
Norris received some support from Cadillac F1 recruit Sergio Perez, whose passionate fans subjected former Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen to rapturous boos at the United States Grand Prix in 2023.
“I don’t think that’s nice, obviously, to be booing the guy that won a race,” Perez told Reuters. “But at the same time, it’s also good to see the feelings of the fans, you know, in terms of how passionate they are. But I think it’s got to be done with respect. We have to have respect for the guy that won the race, always. But, yeah, it’s how it is.”

After his dominant win in Mexico City, Norris was asked whether the negative fan reaction soured his victory. He replied: “I don’t know why [they are booing], to be honest. People can do what they want, honestly.
“They have the right to do it if they want to do it. So I think that’s sport sometimes. I don’t know why, I can’t stop laughing when I get booed, so I think it makes it more entertaining for me. So yeah, they can keep doing it if they want. Of course, you don’t want it; I’d prefer it if people cheered for me, but who knows.
Unfortunately for the naysayers, Norris is showing no signs of being affected by the jeering. The Brit has out-scored his team-mate, Oscar Piastri, in the last six race weekends and is storming towards a maiden World Championship triumph. He now boasts a 24-point advantage with three races remaining in 2025.
