It’s lucky 13 for Carrie Underwood!
The American Idol winner and judge has announced that she will return for a 13th year singing the opening for the NFL’s Sunday Night Football.
An Instagram post shared on both Carrie’s page and SNF on NBC’s page announced the singer’s return for another season, with SNF writing, “We’ll be waiting all day to hear it once again! 🏈⭐”
That caption, of course, refers to the opening words of the song, when Carrie sings, “I’ve been waiting all day for Sunday night, the tough get rough in a primetime fight.”
Carrie Underwood Is Likely to Stick With Fan Fave SNF Theme
While the past 13 years have seen Carrie Underwood mix it up when it comes to the Sunday Night Football theme song, the singer has predominantly stuck with some variation of fan favorite “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.”
The song is a take on the Joan Jett classic, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
Carrie has given fans different versions of the song over the years since taking over the Sunday Night Football song from Faith Hill in 2013.
And this year is likely to follow that pattern.
According to Billboard, Carrie recorded the upcoming season’s song at The Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas. That’s where she hosted her Reflection residency.
Carrie’s creative director Tripp Dixon said, “For the 20th season of SNF, we wanted to set the tone for the night by reimagining the anthem sound in a way that plays to Carrie’s powerhouse vocals, while visually creating a seamless blend of stylized shots and behind-the-scenes moments evoking the national roadshow that is Sunday Night Football, week after week in the fall.”
Carrie Underwood Says Shooting the New Open Was ‘a Blast’
Carrie Underwood says shooting the iconic opening for “Sunday Night Football” was a great experience.
“We had a blast shooting the new opening at The Resorts World Theatre again,” said Carrie. “As always, Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year. I can’t wait for the world to see it!”
How to Catch Carrie Underwood’s 13th Season With ‘Sunday Night Football’
