Angela Scanlon has broken her silence on rumours she could replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing. In October, the presenters announced they will be stepping down from Strictly at the end of the current series, making their final appearance in the festive special on Christmas Day. Ever since the news broke, fans have been speculating about who could fill their iconic shoes, with many hailing Angela, 41, as the perfect candidate.
The presenter has plenty of experience with Strictly as she competed in the 2023 series alongside Carlos Gu. Responding to the speculation, Angela admitted she would certainly be open to the conversation if Strictly were to come knocking. She said: “You know what, I am such a fan of the show and have been forever. I think Tess and Claudia are such an incredible pairing, and I’ve spoken about how I just remember being in Elstree many, many years ago when I did digital stuff for The Voice, and seeing them on the walls and kind of really feeling the significance of two women on the biggest show on telly.
“It has always been super inspiring to me, you know, and to be uttered in the same breath as them, and some of the other brilliant names that are in the mix, is just very flattering.”
Angela added to The Sun: “Claude and Tess have the most amazing dynamic, and that’s really important. So there’s, you know, lots of different things to play for, but I would certainly answer the call.”
“After Tess and Claudia released a joint statement announcing their exit, fans immediately suggested Angela for the role, with one branding her the “best and most realistic” candidate to take over Claudia’s position.
“Naturally witty and charming with a long history of presenting BBC shows,” they added.
Another said Angela “would do wonders for an overdue freshen up” of the show.

Last month, BBC boss Kate Phillips spoke about Tess and Claudia’s decision to leave, revealing that their announcement was motivated by concern the news might leak before they had a chance to share it themselves.
Insisting it was “very much Tess and Claudia’s decision,” Kate explained: “They did ring me to tell me what they were thinking, but I think they were worried it was going to leak, which we often have, so they wanted to very much announce it on their own terms.
“But they are brilliant, brilliant hosts of that show. They have sparkly high heels that are going to be hard to fill, definitely.”
Regarding a potential replacement, Kate added: “I don’t think we’ll really be looking at it until the new year, because we want to make sure that we deliver a great Strictly series.”
