Prince Harry seems to be “at a loss” at the moment as the build-up to Christmas is underway, a royal expert has said. Over the last week, the Duke of Sussex seems to have stepped out of his usual style of engagements as a non-working royal in the US to take part in some more unusual appearances.

This includes a cameo on Meghan Markle’s Netflix holiday special, With Love, Meghan, as well as an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The Duke also attended a business lunch event last Friday in LA, in which he made a joke comparing life in the Royal Family to Downton Abbey.

While all Harry’s appearances have been lighthearted, one royal expert believes these latest outings by the prince show that he “isn’t actually doing very much” workwise.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said: “Harry’s been an extra twice in the last week, once in the critically excoriated With Love, Meghan and the other on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show.

“The former was pretty meaningless although we learnt what foods he doesn’t like. The latter was silly and it wasn’t wise to mock Donald Trump!”

Speaking about Harry’s speech at the business event on Friday, in which he made a joke about the royals, Mr Fitzwilliams continued: “This is pretty harmless and actually rather funny.

“The King won’t mind as it was light-hearted fun and we all love Downton, but Harry seems at a loss as he isn’t actually doing very much. Their (Harry and Meghan’s) Netflix contract has been altered, he has lost Sentebale, and whereas there is nothing wrong with a bit of humour, it’s time he did something serious as he used to, when he was a working royal!”

While Harry may not have had many work-related engagements recently, he is set to have a busy few weeks ahead.

As parents of two young children, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will no doubt be busy buying and wrapping Christmas presents, as well as decorating the house for the festive season ahead of the big day.

It is believed they will be spending Christmas in America, with reports suggesting they have not been invited to Sandringham to spend Christmas with the Royal Family.
