Jamal Roberts

Less than three weeks after winning season 23 of “American Idol,” 27-year-old soul singer Jamal Roberts is living the life he always dreamed of — performing, recording new music, and collaborating with some of his idols.

On June 6, 2025, fans went wild as Roberts gave a few glimpses on social media of the exciting developments in his music career, including recording new music at a Nashville studio, revealing a collaboration with gospel superstar Kirk Franklin, and teasing more “big news” coming.

Producer Calls Jamal Roberts ‘One of the Greatest Voices of Our Time’

Two days after performing in Nashville at the 19 Recordings/BMG Takeover event with fellow “American Idol” alums on June 4, Roberts posted photos from a recording session at nearby East Iris Studios.

He captioned the photo, “Great time in the studio with these talented guys‼️Cooking up something great 💪🏾” and tagged the executives and musicians who were there with him, including his manager Carlton Cofield; producers Daniel Capellaro, Keith Hetrick, and Emile Ghantous; and Joey Arbagey, the executive vice president of music for 19 Entertainment, the record label partner of “American Idol.”

Roberts also tagged songwriter Christian Stalnecker, who has written hits for artists including T-Pain, Rick Ross, Wale, Kane Brown, and Chris Young, and the latest duet from Struggle Jennings and Jelly Roll, “Only God Knows.”

The recording session was clearly a success, given that Arbagey wrote in the comment section of Roberts’ post, “There is no better feeling than being in the studio with you, that God-given voice echoing through the room, inspiring every note makes this the best job in the world!”

Capellaro was also clearly impressed, posting a series of photos from the session and writing, “An unforgettable trip to Nashville. It was an absolute honor to work with American Idol winner Jamal Roberts and his incredible team. One of the greatest voices of our time.”
