
With “American Idol” over for the season, Carrie Underwood is getting back to her roots: performing country music. Fittingly, the singer recently announced her long-awaited return to one of country’s biggest stages this September. The Grand Ole Opry shared an Instagram post with details about the upcoming shows, which will take place over the weekend of September 12 and 13.
Many fans in the post’s comments section were happy to learn of the special four-concert event, dropping heart and fire emojis for the singer. “Carrie Underwood [you’re] so amazing,” one fan wrote. This set of shows marks one of Underwood’s first significant solo performances at the Opry this year, although she has made other appearances in previous months. Most notably, she celebrated the 20th anniversary of her first record, “Some Hearts,” on the Opry stage in June.
The Singer’s Opry Membership Invitation Included an Incredible Surprise

Underwood has been an Opry member since 2008, and her surprise invitation was truly memorable. During a March performance on the famous stage, Underwood received her membership invitation from a true legend: Randy Travis. “I thought you guys were standing up for me!” Underwood joked to the crowd when Travis walked up behind her.
Underwood was moved to tears by the invitation, and the Opry crowd loudly cheered for the newest member of this storied institution. Travis then explained that her official induction date would be May 10th, a day that has undoubtedly become an important anniversary for Underwood. As of 2025, she has now been a member for 17 years. “That was so amazing, and I couldn’t have imagined it from a different person,” Underwood said backstage after the announcement.
Underwood’s ‘Idol’ Fate is Still Unclear This July

While Underwood is Opry-bound for September, fans are still wondering if the “Before He Cheats” singer will make a repeat appearance at the “American Idol” judges’ table. After the show wrapped for Season 23, Underwood told ET that she wasn’t sure about returning. “I don’t know, there’s lots to contemplate,” the singer said. The series has officially been renewed for another season, set to air in 2026.
