The BBC crime thriller based on Tana French’s novels has been called ‘one of the best crime shows out there’.

Netflix has recently added one of the finest Irish crime dramas of the last decade, adapted from a celebrated series of novels.
Viewers were captivated by the eight-part whodunnit when it originally aired on the BBC back in 2019, with additional audiences now poised to uncover this spine-tingling mystery following its wider availability.
Adapted from two crime novels by Tana French, Dublin Murders features The Capture’s Killian Scott and Normal People’s Sarah Greene as a duo of detectives investigating the killing of a young girl on the outskirts of the Irish capital.
Shot on location in both Dublin and Belfast, the central investigation reveals an uncannily similar case from decades earlier and compels the detectives to confront their own murky past.

Whilst the series proved sufficiently popular to prompt discussions of a second series, regrettably there have been no developments thus far.
Nevertheless, perhaps the first instalment’s availability on Netflix could generate renewed enthusiasm for the thriller series and fans might eventually witness the remaining four novels in French’s Dublin Murder Squad saga adapted at some point in the near future.
One glowing 10/10 IMDb review described it as “One of the best Crime Shows out there” and continued: “I found this show to not only be a gripping mystery, but also a realistic study on PTSD and a detective crumbling under the pressure of working in such a traumatising field.”
Another viewer who had read the original novels stated: “I just can’t see anything wrong with this superb adaptation.

“The undercurrent of something slightly supernatural is perfectly set and never strays into the silly or obvious.
“I spent each episode wracking my brains about what could possibly happen next and each time I was left stunned. Great plot, superb acting. Don’t miss it!”
A further admirer branded it “One of the best crime dramas I’ve ever seen”, although cautioned audiences that the concluding episode might leave some feeling unsatisfied.
“This is a series that builds and builds in atmosphere, complication, depth and darkness,” they added.

“By the end of the series some of the main story is left untold, setting up series two nicely (if there is to be one).
“There are numerous character plots that haven’t been fully exploited and several plot lines left to develop.”
Both readers and television enthusiasts are undoubtedly hoping for a second series, and increased viewership on Netflix could provide the impetus producers require for a continuation.
Should you be unable to stream Dublin Murders on Netflix, the programme is also available to view on BBC iPlayer and Disney+.
