Hollywood has seemingly proved a challenge for the duchess

A reported brush with journalist Diane Sawyer suggested that Meghan Markle seemed to be having some trouble breaking into the Hollywood circles.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, might have achieved many things others could only dream of – making her name as an actress, bagging a prince and a royal title, owning a Montecito mansion, signing a lucrative Netflix deal and building a multi-million-dollar business.

But despite all this, it seems Meghan still hasn’t quite found her place amongst the A-Listers – if reports are to be believed.

‘They are not friends’

Last summer, Meghan was in attendance at the G9 Ventures Summer Summit, a women’s business summit in the Hamptons.

She reportedly travelled in style with her Montecito neighbour, Jamie Kern Lima, in her private jet.

Meghan can show up at events where they are at, move into their neighborhood but they are not friends.

It was believed Meghan would be busy networking ahead of the launch of her lifestyle business, then named American Riviera Orchard, now As Ever, with Page Six reporting that there were several “Markle BFFs” at the event.

Hollywood stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon and Diane Sawyer joined her on the star-studded guest-list. However, there was a noticeable absence of any photos of Meghan with her fellow actresses, or the journalist, leading to rumours that they had deliberately avoided being in any snaps with Meghan.

According to NewsNation, an insider subsequently claimed: “They know that if they are in a picture with [Meghan] it is a tacit approval of her that she can use to promote herself. Meghan can show up at events where they are at, move into their neighborhood but they are not friends.”

However, Gwyneth has been outspoken about claims of a rift between her and Meghan.

She told Vanity Fair in March: “I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all. Maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie.”

Diane Sawyer ‘avoided’ Meghan Markle with other celebs

Diane Sawyer’s apparent cold shoulder of Meghan is no doubt a particularly painful set-back.

The journalist and ABC News anchor has interviewed the likes of Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and George W. Bush. She was also one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of the year.

Although neither of them have addressed the Hamptons rumours, the pair have not been pictured together or publicly spoken about one another since.
