Strictly Come Dancing stars Karen Carney and Carlos Gu appeared on Morning Live on Tuesday
The professional dancer became emotional during Saturday’s (November 29) live show after scoring a perfect 40 with his celebrity partner Karen Carney.
Claudia Winkleman notably comforted the star after the pair received high praise for their Couple’s Choice routine to Lady Gaga’s 2011 pop anthem, Born This Way.
Carlos explained why he got so tearful on Tuesday’s (December 2) episode of BBC Morning Live, where he and Karen were interviewed by hosts Louise Minchin and Rav Wilding.
“Carlos, how are you after Saturday night? Because there were a few tears,” Louise began.

The dancer replied: “I know! I got so emotional. Everything that we’ve been through together. It wasn’t easy, and [Karen] tried really hard. Every day she worked the hardest she possibly could.
“I witnessed the journey she had from a footballer and then [to] come to the dancefloor and produce that Couple’s Choice. And also, that dance wasn’t just a dance for us, it was a celebration of who we are and where we came from.
“[It was for] our mums, who raised us in so many incredible ways. So, all the emotions got there and I didn’t even realise we got a ten. I think the tens just blew me away… She did amazing.”
Rav added: “Carlos, we don’t want to make you emotional but we’ve got Nadiya [Bychkova] with us in the studio, who said, she knows we’re talking to you, ‘Please don’t get him upset again, please don’t.’”
Reflecting on having their families in the ballroom with them, Karen went on: “My mum was in the audience and we know how much Carlos’ mum means to him, she’s an incredible woman.

“The dance was about celebration, for everyone that inspires us to follow your dreams… I genuinely think this gentleman next to me was born to dance and I wanted to follow my dream and wanted to play football. So, it was about a celebration and inspiration for everyone that drives you to get you where you are today.
“We wanted to have a lot of fun and project that through to everyone who watched, whether in the studio or at home.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Karen revealed the former Strictly stars who have supported her throughout her dancing journey, including Sara Davies, Anneka Rice and Ellie Simmonds.
This weekend, Karen and Carlos will be stepping into the world of 1966 Broadway musical Sweet Charity for Musicals week. They are set to perform a Samba to The Rhythm of Life by Sammy Davis Jr.
“It’s Musicals week, so it has to be big. This is actually my favourite musical,” Carlos revealed.
