He was the most polarizing character of Nobody Wants This Season 1. Loved? Not really. Memorable? Without a doubt. And now, he’s making a dramatic return — confirmed — for an even bigger role in Season 2.

But Noah? He listens to her podcast to understand her work, but it’s clear he hasn’t fully immersed himself in her world. Joanne’s parents also play a much smaller role compared to Noah’s, which doesn’t seem entirely fair. The show focuses more on his side of the relationship, perhaps because his community is more skeptical of Joanne, while hers is more open to Noah — despite some misunderstandings of Judaism.

This imbalance makes Ashley and Ryann’s return even more significant. As two of the few characters on Joanne’s side, they’re vital in ensuring that both Noah and Joanne are equally represented in the narrative. Their return in Season 2 will hopefully allow us to see more of Joanne’s social circle and help balance the story, making it feel less one-sided.

Joanne’s Journey: Converting to Judaism — The Big Decision

In Season 2, Joanne’s friendships will become even more crucial as she seriously contemplates whether or not to convert to Judaism. After her heartfelt conversation with Rebecca, Joanne understands the weight of becoming the Rabbi’s wife or girlfriend. It’s a huge responsibility, and while she’s not entirely closed off to the idea of conversion, she’s not ready for it yet. She’ll need her friends more than ever to guide her through this decision and provide the emotional support she needs.

Since the show is semi-autobiographical (via Y! Entertainment), it’s likely Joanne will eventually convert — much like the creator of the show. However, that may not come by the end of Season 2, especially considering how much more she has to learn about Judaism and reflect on her own beliefs.

There’s also the looming pressure from Noah’s decision to pursue the Head Rabbi role at the end of Season 1, which could influence her thinking. The announcement at Miriam’s Bat Mitzvah made it even harder for her to back out of this decision, and if she’s not already facing pressure from the temple and the Roklovs, you can bet she will soon.
