Meghan’s Netflix Future Suddenly in Doubt as Shock Claim Emerges — The Detail Nobody Saw Coming
Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, has allegedly been dropped from her upcoming role in a Netflix series, according to a new report.
News.com.au’s Bronte Coy reported this week that Meghan and her husband Prince Harry had made the surprising decision to move back to the UK with their two children — and, days later, reported that Meghan’s return to acting was one reason for the move.
The former Suits star, who gave up her acting career when she met Harry and married into the royal family, had reportedly accepted a role in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen.
Days after that story broke, longtime royal expert Tina Brown has claimed that the offer has been rescinded, due to the negative attention Markle’s casting had received.
“I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn,” wrote Brown in her Substack column today.

Previously best known for her role in Suits, Meghan put her acting career on hold when she got involved with Prince Harry.
“The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK.”
Brown is the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker and the author of several best-selling royal books, including 2022’s The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor.
Respected entertainment industry outlet The Hollywood Reporter then ran Brown’s claims, and reported that they had reached out to Brown who said that she “stands by her reporting.”
Brown’s Substack update had been only a few lines long, making the claim that Meghan’s offer of a role had been “withdrawn,” with Brown promising: “More to come.”
British newspaper The Telegraph has also reported the news, with the outlet reporting it “understands the deal could collapse after public reaction to the revelation,” and claiming that the reservations come from Netflix itself, rather than the show’s production team.
The Guy-Ritchie directed series The Gentlemen has been a hit for Netflix.
As news.com.au’s senior royal correspondent Bronte Coy initially reported, Meghan was said to be hugely excited about her return to acting, and the proposed role within Ritchie’s series.
News.com.au has reached out to the Duchess of Sussex’s representatives for comment.
It’s been a week of surprising announcements for Meghan and Harry, who fled the royal family to start a new life in California in 2020.
A source close to the couple revealed to news.com.au this week that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are relocating from the US for an “extended period” of time in a “matter of days” – and have even already enrolled Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, in a local school.
This news led to widespread confusion from royal watchers, given Harry’s strained relationship with the rest of the royal family and his combative relationship with the UK’s tabloid press.
A day later, another news.com.au exclusive: That Meghan would return to acting during this UK stint, and had been offered a role in Guy Ritchie’s hit comedy-drama series, The Gentlemen.
The hit Netflix show is filmed in Britain and is a spinoff of Ritchie’s 2019 film by the same name.
