The House of the Spirits marks the first Spanish-language adaptation of Isabel Allende’s iconic novel following the 1993 film
alling all period drama fans! Prime Video has just released a first look at its upcoming eight-part series The House of the Spirits, and we can’t wait for this one to air.
Based on the “iconic” 1982 novel by Chilean author Isabel Allende, the series marks the first Spanish-language adaptation of the bestselling book and follows a “passionate” family in Latin America across three generations.

Among the producers are actress Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) and Allende herself, alongside FilmNation Entertainment, the company behind Oscar-winning films Anora and Conclave.
This isn’t the first time the novel has been adapted, as it was previously brought to the screen in 1993 in a film starring Jeremy Irons, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close and Winona Ryder.
With an impressive Spanish-speaking cast and the author closely involved, the new adaptation is set to be a modern reimagining for both longtime fans and new viewers. Keep reading to find out more about the eight-part series…
What is The House of the Spirits about?
Set in a conservative South American country, the family saga follows three generations of women – Clara, Blanca and Alba – over the course of 50 years.
The synopsis reads: “The House of the Spirits is a magnificent family saga that tells the epic tale of a proud and passionate family, secret loves and bloody revolution.

Who stars in The House of the Spirits?
Alfonso Herrera (Rebel Moon) plays Esteban Trueba, while Nicole Wallace (Culpa Nuestra) and Dolores Fonzi (Blondi) star as Clara del Valle at different stages of her life.

Chiara Parravicini plays Rosa
Sara Becker (The Movie Teller) and Fernanda Urrejola (Cry Macho) play Blanca, while Rochi Hernández (30 Nights with My Ex) plays Alba.
Meanwhile, Fernanda Castillo (The Lord of the Skies) plays Férula, Aline Kuppenheim (A Fantastic Woman) is Nivea del Valle and Eduard Fernández (The Skin I Live In) plays Severo del Valle.

Dolores Fonzi plays adult Clara
Rounding out the cast are Juan Pablo Raba (News of a Kidnapping) as Tío Marcos, alongside Pablo Macaya (In Her Place) and Nicolás Contreras (Baby Bandito) as Pedro Tercero.
The first three episodes of The House of the Spirits land on Prime Video on 29 April, followed by weekly releases until the finale on 13 May.
