Now that the complete love story of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and his wife, Sophie Bridgerton (Yerin Ha), has enchanted audiences, you may be looking for the next great Bridgerton romance. After all, it’s difficult not to wonder what’s next for Mayfair’s most esteemed family after taking in the cliffhangers of Season 4, now streaming. Well, you’re in luck: Bridgerton Season 5 is already confirmed.
The celebration-worthy news came in May 2025. At that time, Netflix announced Bridgerton Seasons 5 and 6 were on the way, like a carriage through Regency-era London. Yes, that means fans have not one but two upcoming seasons of Bridgerton to look forward to.

Showrunner Jess Brownell stopped by Bridgerton: The Official Podcast with series executive producer and director Tom Verica to give a progress report on Season 5.
“We pretty much finished the writers’ room. We’re nearly done with the scripts,” Brownell says in Episode 4 of the podcast. In fact, she’s already thinking about the Season 5 finale. Verica lauds Brownell, saying, “You heard it right! It’s all in her brain right here.”

This article contains major character or plot details.
What will Bridgerton Season 5 be about?
While certain details about Season 5’s plot are secrets that even Lady Whistledown couldn’t uncover, the scribe herself does give us a few hints about what’s ahead for Bridgerton. In the second half of Season 4, Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan) makes the difficult decision to retire her gossip column, Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers. Penelope has realized her words carry more heft than ever, and the possible collateral damage isn’t worth it.
However, in the final seconds of the Season 4 finale, we hear Lady Whistledown’s unmistakable voice-over once again — and Penelope’s husband, Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), hands his wife a brand-new issue of Lady Whistledown.
Someone has revived Lady Whistledown and taken up the author’s mantle for themselves.
Brownell and the rest of the writers were excited to tackle the twist, which is a reinvention of the Lady Whistledown story from Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels. In the book series, Penelope is the only Lady Whistledown.
“We knew we couldn’t really play with that reveal for too long because people could just google it,” Brownell says on Bridgerton: The Official Podcast. “But now people really don’t know, and we really get to play with the audience’s expectations.”
Tune in to Season 5 to see if you can figure out Bridgerton’s latest mystery — and fall in love with its next swoonworthy romance.
What happens to the characters before Bridgerton Season 5?
The Season 4 finale leaves the Bridgerton family on the precipice of something ahead of Season 5:
Violet Bridgerton
The Bridgerton family matriarch finally serves some tea of her own in Season 4. Violet (Ruth Gemmell) pursues a relationship with Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis) and even accepts his proposal. However, she realizes she cannot marry just yet and instead chooses to commit to her own journey.
Anthony and Kate Bridgerton
The viscount and viscountess introduce the family to their beautiful baby boy, Edmund, named after his late Bridgerton grandfather. The heir to the family has officially arrived. Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) also support Benedict at his beautiful wedding at My Cottage.
Benedict and Sophie Bridgerton
The happy couple marries at their country estate, overcoming obstacles ranging from class differences to scheming stepmothers and fake shoe clips. Benedict and Sophie’s wedding unites aristocrats like the Bridgertons and Sophie’s working-class found family for one beautiful event. And, as Sophie’s portrait in My Cottage confirms, the artistic Benedict is painting again.
Colin and Penelope Bridgerton
Penelope ends her society column and is now working on fiction. Colin, also an author, is more than happy to support his wife. The couple is raising their baby, Elliot, the next head of the Featherington family. Oh, and don’t forget Colin’s regular foodie lunches with his Featherington brothers-in-law.
Eloise Bridgerton
In the wake of Lord John Stirling’s (Victor Alli) death, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) realizes cynicism may not always be the answer. She encourages Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) not to abandon her starry-eyed dreams and urges Posy Li (Isabella Wei), Sophie’s stepsister, to follow her heart on the marriage mart. This is a positive development for Eloise, who begins to notice that her nearest and dearest have coupled up.
Francesca Stirling
The third Bridgerton daughter suffers the greatest tragedy of her life when her beloved husband, John, suddenly dies. Francesca (Hannah Dodd) begins to grieve: for her marriage, for the pregnancy she did not have, and for the future that has now vanished. Still, Francesca attends Benedict and Sophie’s wedding, thankful for the “great love” she and John shared — and doubtful another will come.
Gregory Bridgerton
The youngest Bridgerton boy is starting to learn about matters of the heart. At least Gregory (Will Tilston) has his older brothers — and the Featherington brothers-in-law dining club — to lean on.
Hyacinth Bridgerton
The youngest Bridgerton sister is devastated by the death of her brother-in-law John. Hyacinth questions whether she really wants to debut into society — or find a husband at all — if tragedy is bound to strike. Eloise, of all people, revives Hyacinth’s romantic notions. But now they are tempered by Hyacinth’s determination to know herself before she knows love.
Is there any more Bridgerton on the way?
Yes, at the same time Bridgerton Season 5 was confirmed, so was Season 6.
How can I learn more about Bridgerton Seasons 5 and 6?
By returning to Tudum, of course. As you await the next seasons of Bridgerton, keep coming back here for all the Bridgerton news that’s fit to print.
