netflix was on to a hit back in 2023 when it dropped the first season of Kohrra, a six-part Indian crime thriller which focused on the murder of a bridegroom just days before the wedding.
At the time, the Punjabi-language show was hailed as “worth the hype” and it ended up winning five awards at the Filmfare OTT Awards. The show has now returned for a second season, this time focusing on the murder of a woman who is found dead in her brother’s barn.
A synopsis for the show’s second season reads: “The mist descends once more — this time over Dalerpura, a town with no clear answers and far too many whispers. Kohrra, Netflix’s critically acclaimed investigative crime drama, returns for a gripping second season with a haunting new trailer.
“The story unpacks the murder of a woman (Pooja Bhamrrah) found dead in her brother’s (Anurag Arora) barn, a growing list of suspects including her own husband (Rannvijay Singha), and two officers determined to chase the truth to the end.”

The dramatic trailer for the show sees new detective Dhanwant Kaur joining forces with Amarpal Jasjit Garundi as they attempt to solve the murder. However, things continue to escalate with further crimes and Dhanwant trying to figure out what happened to her missing husband.
Reception
Much like the first season, the second season of Kohrra is attracting rave reviews. Writing for Decider, Radhika Menon said: “The best TV succeeds when it reflects, contends with, and challenges the mores of a culture or community, and the crime genre is often a reliable vehicle in conveying these stories. It’s why Season 1 of Kohrra was so affecting—it grappled with homophobia and patriarchy within Indian society.
“It’s exciting that Season 2 follows suit, once again exploring prominent social issues like violence against women and patriarchy again (though it funnels the latter through a different lens than season 1).”

Fans were thrilled at the show’s return
Meanwhile, one fan said: “Kohrra Season 2 takes you hostage. It is subtle, but not how we accept our reality to be. It catches you looking at the memories of that one evening you stared at the wall for hours. For you had so much agony, the sentiment of it had lost meaning. It then makes you feel an intense pain that you cannot explain. It uses your emotion to teach you grieving is ok.”
A second added: “I had watched the first three episodes over three days because it’s too intense and I’m anyway rarely a binge watcher. But last night I couldn’t stop myself from watching the rest of the episodes. Full points to how each character has been written and performed by every one of the actors. Let’s not forget the actor that plays Mona Singh’s husband and the turmoil and guilt encompassed in his life. I honestly couldn’t find fault with anything and I’m especially glad that they didn’t drag it to 8 episodes.”

Fans have been binge-watching the popular Indian crime drama
And a third commented: “If any story can make you feel emotions without one being able to put into words what that emotion is – then that’s the best praise fiction and storytelling can get. Kohrra does that so effortlessly and I can only say this is top notch television we are getting to see.“
Who stars in Kohrra?
Starring in the show’s second season are Mona Singh (3 Idiots) as sub-inspector Dhanwant Kaur, Barun Sobti (22 Yards) as assistant sub-inspector Amarpal Jasjit Garundi and Rannvijay Singha (London Dreams).
