New details have been revealed about the death of Dezi Freeman in rural Victoria.

The fugitive was shot more than 20 times when he was located by police officers in Thologolong, according to the Herald Sun.

Flash bangs were used to force him out of his hideout.

A car travelling to and from the Porepunkah area led officers to his hideout.

It is believed it was driven by someone known to the alleged murderer.

Investigators will be analysing phone records from devices located at the scene to determine how the fugitive survived more than 200 days on the run.

It can be revealed that police intercepted a call from Mr Freeman days after he killed two police officers last year, in which he said he “effed up”, but it could not be used to track his location.
