It’s a great day all round!

It’s triple joy for Mamma Mia! fans today – not only have the first two films in the series been added to Netflix in the UK, but we now have a more definitive update on a potential third film. Ever since the release of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018, fans have been clamouring for more sunshine, dancing and of course, even more renditions of famous hits from iconic band ABBA.
Despite being a critical and commercial success, progress on a potential third film has been very slow in the subsequent years, but NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley offered a positive update.
“Yes, I’m going to say right now that there will be a Mamma Mia 3,” she told Deadline at the 79th BAFTA Awards on Sunday (22 February), before adding that she was speaking to producer Judy Craymer about a new story.
Naturally, one of the burning topics for any future film would be the possibility of Meryl Streep reprising her role as Donna Sheridan-Carmichael, to which Langley replied: “If Meryl Streep would like to come back, we’ll find a way to bring her back.”
While Langley is hopeful that Streep could make a comeback, Stellan Skarsgård was far more ambivalent on his own chances of reprising his part of Bill Anderson, with the actor noting that he was too “old”.

“Oh, yeah. I mean, I don’t know if they’ll be able to transport me to the set,” quipped the actor, who is nominated for an Academy Award this year. “I’m so old, I’ll probably be dead when it happens. I’ll come as ashes and play it from an urn.”
Co-star Amanda Seyfried, who portrays Sophie Sheridan, said in November that the third film was in the works, sharing: “Of course it’s not off the table, it’s searing a hole into the table.

“Maybe I should just be coy, or maybe I’m just naïve, but I’m pretty sure Mamma Mia 3 is a done deal… I love portraying a mum, so I would love to see Sophie with her kids,” she added.
Meanwhile, if you need to remind yourself of the sun-soaked extravaganza, then the original 2008 film and its 2018 sequel are both available to stream on Netflix in the UK having been added today.
Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again are streaming on Netflix.
