When Nevaeh Jett discovered her father had died, her stomach dropped.
As many as 14 victims were preyed upon by her paedophile father Daniel Hume over a 40-year period.
She was a victim of his horrendous crimes and her bravery helped secure an admission of guilt and 30 years for his evil crimes.

Nevaeh started to rebuild her life, overcame addiction, secured a job and even had a child of her own.
But her peace was shattered in August last year when a friend sent her a newspaper article about her father’s death.
“When I saw that headline, the feeling that I got, the rage, the anger, the disbelief,” she said.
“I didn’t even know he was sick, didn’t know he had esophageal cancer, I found out four days after he was given voluntary assisted dying that he was dead.”
Now she’s fighting to make sure no other convicted criminals get to die with dignity.
Statement from the NSW Government
While we understand this is painful for victims, the Government is not proposing changes to the law.
Those accessing voluntary assisted dying have an advanced disease or illness and are expected to die within months.
There are strict criteria for people to access voluntary assisted dying, including approval from an independent decision-making body.
Statement from Corrective Services NSW Commissioner Gary McCahon PSM
Corrective Services NSW recognises the pain and suffering experienced by victim-survivors of crime.
We are committed to protecting victim-survivors from further trauma while their perpetrator is in custody.
Our expectation is that perpetrators do not have access to photographs of their victims while in custody and we are taking all reasonable measures available to prevent that.
We deeply regret and apologise for the distress caused to the victim-survivors in this matter.
The independent investigation into this matter found the inmate had a photo of his victims in his belongings at the time of his death. I apologise unreservedly for this.
We are reviewing procedures relating to inmate access to photographs in custody.
We will identify potential improvements and reduce the risk of policy breaches in the future.
The Voluntary Assisted Dying suitability and assessment process for inmates is independent of Corrective Services and is managed by Justice Health NSW.
The independent VAD Board is responsible for approving applications to access VAD.
