Book enthusiasts have been treated to a first look at a new adaptation of a novel hailed by fans as “the best in months”.

The forthcoming eight-episode series Every Year After draws from Carley Fortune’s chart-topping novel, Every Summer After, which swiftly garnered viral attention on BookTok and remained on the New York Times Bestseller list for 16 weeks.

The Amazon Original production is set to arrive in just a few months’ time, with all instalments becoming available to watch simultaneously on Prime Video from 10 June.

It features a stellar ensemble including Saltburn and Netflix performer Sadie Soverall, alongside High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ Matt Cornett, who play the programme’s central romantic pair, Percy and Sam.

The cast also includes Abigail Cowen, recognised primarily for her performances in Fate: The Winx Saga and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She features alongside Aurora Perrineau (KAOS, Westworld), Michael Bradway (Chicago Fire, Marked Men), Joseph Chiu (Fear Street: Prom Queen) and Elisha Cuthbert (Girl Next Door, Happy Endings), reports the Mirror.

A synopsis teases: “Told over the course of six years and one week in Barry’s Bay – the quintessential lake town – Every Year After is a romantic, nostalgic story of first loves and the people and choices that mark us forever.”

Readers who have finished the book have lavished it with acclaim, with the title garnering predominantly five-star or four-star ratings over on Goodreads. One reviewer called it “hands down the best book I’ve read in what feels like months”, insisting it was “impossible to put down.”

They added: “More than just a good summer read this was a beautiful story about second chances and the love between two people that manages to stay intact even after not seeing each other for over a decade.”

Another, giving it a five-star rating, noted: “What I wouldn’t give to be able to go back and read this one for the first time again. Every ounce of hype shown to this book is completely deserved. I loved just about every single minute of it and had the overwhelming feeling of not wanting it to end.”

A third observed: “The best book I read in a while and definitely the best one I read this year. It was like The Summer I Turned Pretty, only better.”

All eight episodes of Every Year After will be available to stream on Prime Video from June 10.
