Tyler Perry provides an update on Beauty in Black season 2. Created by Perry, who also writes and directs the series, the drama focuses on two women from different walks of life and what happens when they cross paths. One attempts to break free of her dangerous surroundings while the other has to deal with a dysfunctional family situation. With a Beauty in Black cast that includes Taylor Polidore Williams, Crystle Stewart, Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, Ts Madison, Julian Horton, Steven G. Norfleet, and Richard Lawson, among others, the soap’s second installment has been closely watched.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley at the premiere of his upcoming Netflix movie Straw, which debuts on June 6, Perry was asked about the status of Beauty in Black season 2. The creator, writer, and director struck an optimistic tone and shared that season 2 is filmed and will be debuting soon. Read the quote below:

ScreenRant: You had a show with Netflix, Beauty in Black. Season 2, are there any updates on that front?

Tyler Perry: Yes, season 2 is coming really soon. We already shot it, it’s in the can.

The second half of season 1 ended in spectacular fashion. Horace (Ricco Ross), ailing and on the back foot for once, makes one final attempt to remain in power. Kimmie (Williams) is a part of that, since Horrace wants to marry her. Kimmie accepts Horrace’s proposal, wanting a better life for herself, but it sets up a different dynamic that will play out throughout Beauty in Black season 2 and lead to shifting character relationships.

Beauty in Black has dropped the rest of its first season, and the ending of part 2 has brought some of the show’s biggest bombshells yet.

There is also the fact that Olivia (Debbi Morgan) blackmailed Lena (Ashley Versher), with Olivia’s wealth once again shielding her from consequences.
