The focus on Emily’s romances has always been predominant, but rarely the thing that made Emily the happiest throughout Emily in Paris. Emily’s tentative friendship with Gabriel transformed her into one of his restaurant’s biggest supporters, and another fundamental part of her life in Paris that always sustained her was Emily’s friendship with Mindy. Indeed, Emily was more affected by Nicolas trying to separate Mindy and her than anything Camille ever did to put some distance between Emily and Gabriel, showing the reality of Emily’s priorities, despite spending much time wondering whether she had more feelings for Alfie or Gabriel.
With Emily in Paris season 4 promising explosive new developments for Emily & her friends’ stories, some key elements of season 3 must be remembered.
Emily’s Career Is The Only Constant In Her Life
Love Interests Come And Go But Emily’s Career Always Satisfies Her

Throughout Emily in Paris, Emily’s career has been her constant, one of the things that gave her more joy, and the one thing she could not stop thinking about. Not only did Emily move to Paris for her career in Emily in Paris season 1, but she tried again and again to earn Sylvie’s respect, relentlessly proposing her ideas despite being shot down more often than not. Emily unabashedly shared her opinions and tried to understand and study Sylvie’s way of doing business, and Emily’s relentlessness eventually paid off, as Sylvie began tolerating her first and respecting her ideas second.
What kept Emily in Paris after the cliffhanger ending of Emily in Paris season 2 wasn’t Alfie predominantly, nor a love interest. Emily remained in Paris because she wanted to learn more from Sylvie, and she wanted to support her ideas even when it clashed with her boss Madeline’s plans for Savoir. Emily’s job has been her lifeline in her move across the world, and the one thing that never bores her, to the point that the continuous spewing of her ideas made an enemy out of Julien, one of her first allies, in Emily in Paris season 3’s ending.
Emily’s reason for staying in Paris after Emily in Paris season 2’s ending was learning from Sylvie and seeing through Agence Grateau, making her career the one thing that always drove her.
Emily’s Biggest Hurdles In Emily In Paris S1 Came From Clashing With Sylvie
Emily & Sylvie’s Relationship Has Changed Completely
While Emily’s odd situation with Gabriel and Camille bothered her in Emily in Paris season 1, what made her wish to be on the first plane back to Chicago was how unappreciated she was by Sylvie. In her move, Emily went from having a mentor-like figure like Madeline to someone like Sylvie, who did not understand her, considered her an invader, and did everything she could to make her job so unbearable, hoping Emily would quit. Only the way Emily handled Pierre Cadault and his show convinced Sylvie to give her an actual chance.
Emily In Paris Continues To Emphasize The Importance Of The Characters’ Careers
This Happened With Sylvie & Laurent, But Also Camille & Gabriel
Emily in Paris always acknowledged the importance of Emily’s career for her, but it also highlighted how it was like that for many of its characters. The main reason for Gabriel and Camille’s breakup in Emily in Paris season 1 was Camille wanting Gabriel to accept her parents’ money to have his own restaurant, while Gabriel wanted to make it alone or with someone unknown who believed in him, like Antoine. Camille herself can understand his wish because she curates her gallery, which is of fundamental importance to her.
Emily in Paris season 4 part 1 releases on Netflix on August 15, 2024, with part 2 following on September 12, 2024.
