The Lincoln Lawyer has added Cobie Smulders to the season 4 cast, and the announcement means the upcoming installment will feature an exciting How I Met Your Mother reunion. Smulders’ notoriety grew after playing Maria Hill in the MCU, but she’s also best known for playing Robin Scherbatsky on all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother. Despite ending 11 years ago, HIMYM still has a loyal fanbase who would be happy to see former stars from the show joining worthwhile projects.

Smulders isn’t the only name joining The Lincoln Lawyer season 4’s cast, with newcomers also including Constance Zimmer and Sasha Alexander in important roles. Now that Cobie Smulders has joined The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, she won’t be the only cast member on the Netflix show with ties to How I Met Your Mother. Becki Newton, who currently plays Lorna Crane in the Netflix show, previously portrayed Quinn Garvey in How I Met Your Mother seasons 7 and 8. The character was engaged to Neil Patrick Harris’ Barney for a brief time before the pair realized they couldn’t trust each other, with some of that distrust stemming from Barney’s past relationship with Robin.

There’s a chance that she could even be playing someone on the prosecution team, meaning she’d be a new adversary for Mickey’s team.

With Lorna continuing to be a vital member of the team, going from a legal aide to a lawyer, if Smulders is involved at all in Mickey’s case, she will likely cross paths with Lorna. Based on The Lincoln Lawyer season 3’s ending, Mickey needs all the help he can get, so Lorna will hopefully get more time to shine after becoming a lawyer. Whatever’s in store, it would be a treat for HIMYM fans to see Smulders and Newton work together again in a completely different setting.

The comedy-drama is led by Jason Segel, Smulders’ How I Met Your Mother co-star, who played Marshall Eriksen for the duration of the CBS show.
