Bret Baier interrupted Wednesday’s episode of Special Report to deliver a ‘terrible and sickening’ news story that has left Fox News viewers as well as its hosts heartbroken

Things got off to a very sad start on Wednesday’s Special Report as Bret Baier brought fans some devastating breaking news.

As he introduced the show, Bret, 55, addressed viewers directly, stating, “But first breaking tonight, tragedy in Minneapolis, police say a shooter fired through a window at a Catholic church this morning, two children were killed, 14 others were injured, along with three adults in their 80s.

“They said the shooter died of a self-inflicted wound. It occurred during the first week of the new school year. The FBI is investigating it as an act of domestic terrorism. Correspondent Jonathan Hunt is monitoring developments tonight,” he added.

Fox’s chief Correspondent, Jonathan, was in Minneapolis reporting live from the devastating scenes. he told Bret and viewers at home, “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare. This morning, families sent their children off to only the third day of school, and moments later, received news that there was a shooting tonight.

“Pope Leo is among those sending condolences to the Catholic community in Minneapolis over what he called a terrible tragedy,” he added.

Fox also played a clip of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey speaking on the tradgey, “There are no words that can capture the horror and the evil of this unspeakable Act, a tragic and deadly start to the new school year after a shooter opened fire during a Catholic school mass in Minneapolis.”

A clip of the heartwrenching segment was shared via Bret’s Instagram account, in which he added the caption, “A story none of us ever want to cover in this business– a school shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis has taken the lives of 2 children and injured at least 17 other people. Jonathan Hunt has the heartbreaking story tonight on @SpecialReport.”

Fans were quick to flood Bret’s comment section with tearful and crying face emojis as they reacted to the news.

One upset user agreed with the TV star’s caption, penning, “Truly a story nobody wants to hear.. spot on. Terrible. Sickening,” as another said, “My prayers are with the students and families.”

“I’m lost for words,” someone else admitted, while a fourth, seemingly angry user, chimed in saying, “And the Coward killed himself. Straight to Hell and I hope he suffers eternally. These poor children.”

A fifth viewer declared, “We need to stop publicizing the shooters and giving them fame. Just call them a shooter.”

Police have identified the gunman behind the Annunciation Church shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as 23-year-old Robin Westman, whose mom used to work at the school.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the Westman had no known criminal history before the shooting, which left 17 people, including 14 children, injured. Two children, ages eight and 10, were also killed in the incident.
