Orlando Bloom revealed the grim reality of his drastic weight loss – including the only two foods he was allowed to eat and some grisly side effects.
The actor, 48, appeared on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning to talk to Rylan Clark, 36, and Josie Gibson, 40, about his upcoming role in psychological thriller movie The Cut, which focuses on how boxers cut to drop weight categories.
Rylan pointed out: ‘Your physical transformation was absolutely insane, what you had to do. How did you manage?’
Orlando said: ‘I wouldn’t recommend to anyone at home, it’s not something to take lightly. I had a great nutritionist.
‘I was recommended by one of my agents who worked with Christian Bale on some stuff, so he was checking my bloods and stuff.
‘He basically tiered me down from a three meals a day to two, to one.

‘Suddenly all these foods were being taken away from me and my protein powder was the last one. I was like “No! Don’t take that one.”
‘Then basically I came down to [eating] just tuna and cucumber for the last three weeks.
‘We shot the film in reverse chronological order because of the weight. I had no energy or brain power.
‘Mentally, physically, I was hangry. I was a horrible person to be around.’
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star opened up about the mental impact it had on him.
Orlando continued: ‘The paranoia, the intrusive thoughts. We’re supposed to eat and sleep and take care of ourselves.
‘It’s really a commentary on the lengths a person will go to to have that second shot. I think that’s so relatable.

Orlando pulled out all the stops to make sure that he fit the character physically
‘Last time we were in this studio, we were talking about this guy who was running the country for charity, people swim the channel, people do crazy things.
‘But athletes do this on the regular. We take it to the extreme for the purposes of the movie…’
Rylan wanted to know a little bit more about the character he plays in the film, who doesn’t even have a name.
‘In a way, he loses his identity, which is partly why Boxer is called Boxer,’ Orlando answered.
‘It’s something that is transferable to anyone in some way.’
Speaking with People about his weight loss, Orlando previously said: ‘I was supervised weekly and my blood work was monitored by an expert nutritionist, Philip Goglia, who helped me lose 30 pounds in approximately three months.
‘Ultimately, this is a story about the struggles we all face and what it takes to battle our internal demons and find self-acceptance.’
IMDb’s synopsis states: ‘A retired boxer returns to the ring for one last shot at the title but only if he can make the weight.
‘Holed up in a room in Las Vegas he embarks on an intensive and illegal weight cut program [sic] with an unscrupulous trainer.’
The film is directed by Sean Ellis. Orlando is joined by Outlander actress Caitríona Balfe and The Batman star John Turturro.
