Fox News‘s Kat Timpf found out she had breast cancer after massaging her own breasts in an attempt to induce labor, it’s been revealed.
Timpf, 36, offered the never-before-heard tidbit during an interview with The New York Times published Sunday.
She recounted how doctors then diagnosed her with the disease, after testing a lump she came across on her nipple while preparing for childbirth with her sister.
She gave birth just fifteen hours later.
‘I’ve been through a lot, but I’m also still kind of going through it,’ Timpf told the paper months after a lifesaving mastectomy. ‘Like, “I still don’t have nipples” is probably the best way to describe it.‘
She joked: ‘Would I be better off wearing a looser shirt?’
The Gutfeld! cohost returned to the air in May, months after becoming a mom for the first time in February and undergoing said double mastectomy in March. She is now cancer-free.
‘People are like, Are you breastfeeding? And you have to be like, I just cut my tits off,’ Timpf joked, adding, ‘It’s a weird thing, which is part of the reason why I’ve decided to be so open about it.‘
Other topics touched on by Timpf honed in in on her romantic past – including relationships with women – and mockery she’s faced from viewers before and after her cancer scare.

Timpf also detailed how, prior to meeting her husband Cameron Friscia, she dated women. The two now have a healthy five-month-old son who was born in March
She recalled how, during a 2023 episode of Gutfeld!, she joked that country singer Jason Aldean ‘looks like every guy I’ve ever seen at the bar of a Buffalo Wild Wings’.
Aldean, at the time, had been facing scrutiny for his song ‘Try That in a Small Town.’
‘I will now not watch Gutfeld whenever you are on, which is all the time,’ wrote one viewer at the time, who also told Timpf she looked better as a blonde.
Timpf told the Times: ‘I feel all I can do is do the best at what I’m doing. And also, Fox has been supportive.’
Citing the dichotomy seen between her and longtime host Greg Gutfeld, she added: ‘I do have my own audience too.’
Timpf went on to detail the social media response she’s received since her TV return.
Paraphrased posts the Times used to get Timpf point across included: ‘YES, WE KNOW SHE HAD A BABY, BLAH BLAH. I HAD CANCER, BLAH BLAH.’
Another urged the late night host: ‘You don’t need a double mastectomy. Try ivermectin first. Go on maternity leave and spare us. Stay Home and Be a Mother!’

Elsewhere in the interview, Timpf touted herself as a registered independent who has never voted for Donald Trump. She also framed herself as ‘pro-capitalist, antiwar and sometimes critical of ICE.’
Timpf also detailed how, prior to meeting her husband Cameron Friscia, she dated women.
She downplayed the dating history to the Times, calling it not ‘a big deal.’
In 2024, Timpf revealed in her book, I Used to Like You Until…: (How Binary Thinking Divides Us), that she has had romantic relationships with both men and women.
Speaking on criticism she’s seen from female viewers, Timpf told the Times: “I am not ladylike.’
‘I’m a little rough around the edges. I think that a lot of women are told that they should be ladylike. And I’m successful, career-wise, not being ladylike. I also have a man who loves me, and a baby, not being ladylike,’ she added elsewhere.
As for the men, she said: ‘I think sometimes men just hate women.’
She added that she met her husband on the dating app Raya.

Timpf joined Fox News in 2015. she first appeared on the network in 2013 as a guest on the host’s old show, Red Eye. She has starred in Gutfeld’s series of eponymous late-night programs ever since.
‘I didn’t want someone who was going to agree with me all the time,’ Gutfeld, 61, told the Times of his costar, who recently rushed to the defense of their late night rival Kimmy Kimmel following his brief suspension from ABC.
‘You shouldn’t want the government to have this kind of power over speech,’ Timpf told her and Gutfeld’s viewers at the time.
To end the interview, Timpf cracked a joke to the Times – expressing a desire to have her nipples reconstructed via some well-placed tattoos.
‘I don’t think that those are small things,’ she said. ‘I think that those are big things.’
