Alexander Isak has arrived for his Liverpool medical after they agreed a £125million deal for him – and the striker will complete his move on deadline day.
Talks accelerated on Sunday night and an agreement between the clubs is now in place, with the Swede set to sign a six-year contract.
Sources close to Newcastle say the overall deal will be worth £130m to them and the sale has been sanctioned by the club’s Saudi owners.
The Magpies had been open to exploring his exit all summer, after Isak made it clear at the end of last season that he wanted to leave.
However, as a club statement a fortnight ago revealed, their ‘conditions of sale’ had not been met – those being an acceptable offer from Liverpool and Isak’s replacements secured.
Newcastle hoped they could persuade the Swede to stay at St James’ Park but, after a senior delegation from the ownership visited his house last Monday and made a final plea, there was an acceptance that would not be possible.

The transfer saga has dominated the summer but Newcastle are finally agreeing to sell
Isak told co-owner Jamie Reuben and PIF chiefs that he would remain on strike and wanted to go.
Talks had been taking place in the back channels all week geared towards his exit, with the player’s agent Vlado Lemic heavily involved. And late on Sunday evening a package was agreed between the clubs.
Newcastle have signed Germany striker Nick Woltemade for a club-record £69million and are still hopeful of adding Yoane Wissa, but Brentford’s asking price of £65m is prohibitive as it stands.
