The White House warned “The View” last week about the potential to be “pulled off the air” after Joy Behar’s scathing criticism of President Donald Trump.

The talk show announced July 24 they were going on hiatus.

During the Wednesday, July 23 episode, co-host Whoopi Goldberg introduced a topic about Trump accusing former President Barak Obama of treasonous behavior, to which Behar responded:

“First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6? Who was that again? That was not Obama,” she said, referring to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. “The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It’s driving him crazy.”

The episode prompted a follow-up statement from White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers to Entertainment Weekly, “Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” she said before claiming “The View” has its “lowest ratings” in recent years.

The statement continued, adding that Behar “should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.”

A spokesperson for The View responded by claiming that it is “up in total viewers and women 18-49, versus the comparable weeks last season, to its most-watched in four years,” adding that “season to date, “The View” is ranking No. 1 in households and total viewers among all network daytime talk shows and news programs for the fifth straight season.”

Is ‘The View’ getting canceled?

While there has been no comment from the ABC network, Goldberg announced in the July 24 episode, that the show is going on a break and will return in September 2025 for the new season.

The show hosts will be off for summer break after the Friday, July 25th episode and they usually return on the Tuesday after Labor Day, which this year falls on September 2.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. Eastern on ABC.
