BBC Breakfast viewers saw Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell deliver the latest headlines on Wednesday’s show.

BBC Breakfast was struck by technical difficulties during Wednesday’s live broadcast of the morning show

During the programme, which had already seen viewers switching off earlier in the week, hosts Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell were running through the day’s top stories.

But when it came time to cross over to BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood for the weather update, everything went awry.

Jon said: “Carol has the weather for us this morning. Hi Carol, is this sunshine going to continue for many?”

She responded: “Yes, it is today, Jon. Good morning to you both, and good morning to you too. Yesterday we reached-“

But as the BBC weather presenter began speaking, her microphone started playing up, making it impossible for viewers to hear her clearly, prompting Jon to step in.

Returning to the studio, he explained: “Carol, I’m sorry, Carol, we’ve got a little bit of interference on Carol’s microphone there. We’ll sort that out and we’ll get back to her very soon.

“It sometimes happens, gremlins get involved. Maybe it’s the heat?! Maybe it’s the hot weather interfering.”

Fortunately, the minor glitch was swiftly resolved and they managed to return to Carol later in the programme, reports the Express.

Jon told audiences: “Delighted to say we can rejoin Carol. Carol, we don’t mind not hearing you when the weather is bad! But when the weather is good we want to hear every word.”

The 63-year-old then carried on with the weather bulletin, revealing that today’s peak temperatures would be in the North, near Yorkshire where it might reach 33 degrees.

Earlier this week, Carol stunned her co-stars as she disclosed the position she previously held before becoming part of the BBC team.

During Monday’s programme, Jon questioned Carol about the jobs she had as a youngster to make some additional cash throughout the summer holidays.

She responded: “Yes, I did. I worked as a housemaid, as a waitress, as a receptionist, all these things!”

Joking that she had tackled ‘everything’, Carol also disclosed she worked as a postwoman too.

Obviously taken aback, Jon replied: “A post woman?! You didn’t used to predict the weather for your neighbours? That kind of thing?”

She answered: “No, but you know, you used to go in the mornings, you’d smell toast, bacon, sausages. Ooh, it’d make you hungry!”
