Guests at a high-end resort in Bali have praised the “phenomenal” efforts of staff after a major fire took hold in the main restaurant.
The blaze broke out at about 7am local time (9am AEDT) on the second level of the main restaurant at Club Med Bali in Nusa Dua.
Vision shows large flames tearing through a structure with a straw roof.

Onlookers appeared shocked as large plumes of black smoke billowed from the building.
In a statement to nine.com.au, Club Med Pacific general manager Michelle Davies confirmed the fire had been extinguished and nobody was injured.
“The safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff remain our utmost priority,” she said.
“We can confirm that everyone was brought to safety and that no guests or staff members have been impacted.”
It was hotel guest Haley Priest’s first time staying at Club Med Bali, after travelling to Nusa Dua from Mudgee in NSW with her husband and daughter.
She described being awoken by fire alarms around 7.15am and evacuated to the nearby beach by staff.
“They cleared every room, even though the rooms were not in imminent danger,” she said.
Priest praised the “superhuman” efforts of staff to ensure guests were kept safe.
“There was minimal panic, and we did not at all feel unsafe during the process,” Priest said.
“By 7.30 we all had bottles of water. Staff, including upper management, were checking in with all the guests and keeping us informed.
“They had the beach bar running at full capacity for anyone’s needs. A kid’s creche and play area had been set up on the grass and was fully staffed with games and crafts.”
Davies confirmed resort operations “resumed in a limited capacity” once the fire was extinguished.
Priest said her family were given the green light to return to their room around 8.30am.
The hotel seemed to be “running as normal” outside of the impacted restaurant and the pool, which guests were told would reopen tomorrow, she said.
“The team here have been phenomenal,” Priest said.
“They had moved the full restaurant facilities to the second restaurant and we were being fed by 9.15am.
Footage taken inside the restaurant before the fire shows a sprawling buffet hall with international dining options and multiple cooking stations.
“Super sad as the restaurant was an incredible buffet with amazing chefs, but they will rebuild,” Priest said.
“If anything it’s made me want to come back again to support the resort and the wonderful staff in it.”
Club Med Bali is an all-inclusive resort featuring almost 400 rooms.
Part of the Club Med chain, known for its all-inclusive, high end resorts, the hotel is popular with tourists and families travelling to Bali.
