An Australian who died at a ski resort in Japan on Saturday has been identified as eight-year-old Chloe Jeffries from the Gold Coast.
Japanese media reported Chloe’s death after a snowmobile she and her mother were riding overturned near the ski resort town of Hakuba, north-west of Tokyo.
She suffered serious head injuries and was flown to a hospital in Matsumoto City, where she later died.
Chloe was the fourth Australian killed while on a skiing trip in Japan.
The South Coast Netball Association posted a long tribute to Chloe, saying she was a “very special part” of the community.
“She was known for her beautiful nature, her cheeky, infectious smile, and the joy she brought simply by being herself,” the association wrote on Facebook.
“Chloe had a way of brightening the courts and the people around her.”
The association will honour Chloe’s memory with a special tribute before the season kicks off this coming weekend.
Her death comes just weeks after Australian woman Brooke Day, 22, died at a popular resort in the Hakuba Valley, a popular skiing and snowboarding region about 30 kilometres from Nagano.
The Sunshine Coast woman went into cardiac arrest after becoming stuck in a chairlift and suspended in the air on January 28.
A month earlier, Melbourne man Michael Hurst, 27, died while skiing with friends in the Hokkaido region.
In January, Brisbane Grammar School graduate Rylan Pribadi died on a ski trip in Japan’s northern region, reportedly colliding with a course boundary rope in Niseko.
