Hoping to prove that romantic dramas with two big Hollywood heavyweights still have box office draw, Sony Pictures released A Big Bold Beautiful Journey into theaters globally last year, directed by Kogonada. Following its exclusive theatrical window, it is now confirmed to be heading to Netflix in January 2026. Here’s everything you need to know.
Robbie and Farrell headline the cast with additional talents including Kevin Kline, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Billy Magnussen, Hamish Linklater, and Lily Rabe. Of course, Colin Farrell fans have been heavily treated on Netflix recently, with the streamer releasing his big feature film Ballad of a Small Player back in October.
The story follows two single strangers who meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and are drawn into an extraordinary journey, one filled with humor, wonder, and discovery. Through a twist of fate, they are given the chance to step back into the most defining moments of their pasts, seeing how the choices they made shaped the lives they now live. Along the way, they begin to understand not only where they have come from but also what their futures might hold, and whether destiny offers them the chance to change everything.
It’s fair to say the movie wasn’t a critical or box office blockbuster, with low tracking upon its opening. Furthermore, reviews were mixed-to-negative. Emblematic of those reviews included Nick Levine for NME, who wrote that despite good performances from the two leads, “it all adds up to something not quite charming, not quite moving and not quite compelling. This film is less a big bold beautiful journey; more a mildly diverting pitstop.”
The movie wasn’t a big success at the box office, though, grossing just over $20 million on its $45 million estimated budget.

When will A Big Bold Beautiful Journey be on Netflix US?
Good news! If you missed the movie on the big screen, you don’t have much longer to wait.
Netflix, at least in the United States, has a first-window deal with Sony Pictures, the studio behind the movie, which means all their titles come to Netflix shortly after their theatrical run comes to an end.
For the most part, movies typically come to Netflix around 120 days (or about 4 months) after their initial theatrical debut. We can now confirm that A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will follow this schedule and is confirmed to stream on January 17th, 2026.
Once on Netflix, the movie will stream for 18 months before departing for Hulu/Disney+ in the US.
What about other regions of Netflix? Will they stream A Big Bold Beautiful Journey?
Yes, but it differs around the world. India and some Asian territories typically get Sony movies first alongside the US (expect early 2026), while others like the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia usually have to wait until that second window comes to an end, which will be mid-to-late 2027.
