Brisbane Lions co-captain Lachie Neale has confirmed the end of his marriage to Jules in an emotional statement that left him in tears, admitting a personal mistake he believes is irreparable and expressing readiness to “move on to the next chapter of my life.”

The 32-year-old dual Brownlow medallist, speaking publicly for the first time since Jules’ bombshell Instagram post in December alleging “unimaginable betrayal,” appeared visibly distraught during a brief press conference outside the Lions’ training facility. “I made a mistake that can’t be fixed,” Neale said, voice breaking. “I take full responsibility. Jules and the kids deserve better, and I’m heartbroken for the pain I’ve caused.”
Neale did not elaborate on the nature of the mistake, but sources close to the couple point to rumours of infidelity involving former friend Tess Crosley as the catalyst. Jules, 35, has remained in Western Australia with children Piper, 4, and Freddie, 1, focusing on their wellbeing amid intense media scrutiny.
“I’m ready to move on to the next chapter of my life,” Neale continued, wiping tears. “Football is my focus now — for my teammates, the club, and the fans. But I’ll always love Jules and be there for our kids.”
The confession marks a dramatic shift from Neale’s earlier silence, with insiders saying he felt compelled to speak after weeks of speculation impacted his preparation for the 2026 season. Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann praised Neale’s leadership, stating: “Lachie is a professional. We support him fully as he navigates this personal matter.”
Public reaction has been mixed. Many fans expressed sympathy: “Mistakes happen — he’s owning it,” one posted online. Others criticised the timing and impact on Jules: “She’s the one left picking up the pieces.”
The couple, married since 2018 after meeting in Perth, were once hailed as an AFL power couple. Their decade-long relationship weathered Lachie’s trade to Brisbane and Jules’ relocation, but the recent scandal — involving old photos and alleged betrayal — proved insurmountable.
Jules has not commented since her December statement, but friends say she is “devastated yet strong” for the children. Neale’s admission of an unfixable mistake signals acceptance of the end, shifting focus to co-parenting and his on-field legacy.
As the Lions prepare for pre-season, Neale’s raw honesty has humanised a star often seen as unflappable. For a man who has conquered football’s highest honours, this personal defeat appears the hardest yet. The next chapter begins — but the pain of the last lingers.
