America’s Favorite Runner-Up
John Foster captured the nation’s heart during Season 23 of American Idol, finishing as the runner-up while winning fans over with his soulful voice and genuine personality. Throughout the season, he also introduced audiences to his girlfriend, Brooklyn Bourque, who frequently attended his performances and cheered him on from the crowd.
Since the show ended in mid-May, Foster’s life has been nonstop, filled with performances, recording sessions, and promotional appearances. Despite his busy schedule, he and Bourque have maintained a strong relationship, proving that love can survive even a whirlwind post-Idol lifestyle.
Still Going Strong: Foster & Bourque’s Relationship
Yes, Foster and Bourque are still together. Recently, the couple was able to enjoy some quality time away from the hustle, thanks to a generous Disney Cruise Line gift from American Idol. Foster took Bourque along for the getaway in August, sharing the moment on Instagram:
“We’re enjoying round two of the beach—this time in the Bahamas! Thank you, @americanidol and @abc, for this memorable trip on the @disneycruiseline. Most of all, thank you, God, for this beautiful life!”
Earlier in June, they also enjoyed time together in Florida while Foster worked on new music in Nashville. The couple seems determined to prioritize their relationship despite the pressures of newfound fame.
How Long Have They Been Together?
Foster and Bourque have been dating for over a year. They celebrated their one-year anniversary on May 28, shortly after the conclusion of Season 23. Foster shared a heartfelt message on Instagram:
“It’s been an amazing year and you’ve been beside me every step of the way. Happy 1 year anniversary. I love you so much.”
Their romance has continued to flourish even amid the chaos of Foster’s post-Idol schedule, offering fans a sweet glimpse into the singer’s personal life.
The Tragic Inspiration Behind Foster’s Music
Another significant figure in Foster’s life is his late friend Maggie Dunn. Dunn, along with friend Caroline Gill, tragically died in a car accident in December 2022 when a police officer, driving 86 miles per hour, crashed into their car during a suspect chase.
Foster has stated that their deaths cemented his decision to pursue music seriously:
“Before that, I was kind of just teetering around the idea of music, playing it on the weekends here and there. It wasn’t until that day, when I went through the worst day of my life, when I sat down and wrote that song [‘Tell That Angel That I Love Her’].”
He performed the song on American Idol and later released it as his first single after the show ended, honoring the memory of his friends.
A Heartfelt Love Story Amid Fame and Tragedy
From his American Idol journey to balancing a relationship with Bourque and channeling personal loss into music, John Foster’s story resonates with fans. His romance with Brooklyn Bourque, including dreamy getaways and supportive moments, shows that amidst fame and tragedy, love and resilience can endure.
