The deaths of the boys, aged 14 and 15, comes amid pleas to curb riders using the restricted roadway

Two teenage boys have tragically been killed in a crash with a bus at an intersection infamous for e-bike and motorbike near-misses.

The 15-year-old driver of a trail motorbike and his and 14-year-old passenger were travelling through the Liverpool-Parramatta T-way in Bossley Park, Sydney‘s west, when it crashed into the side of a bus about 7.10pm.

Both became trapped underneath the vehicle and were treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.

Onlookers were seen consoling each other outside of a police perimeter, set up as investigations into the crash were launched.

A number of passengers were also injured in the crash while the 48-year-old male bus driver was uninjured but taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Fairfield City Council Mayor, Frank Carbone, said the local community is “very sad … We feel terrible and distraught”.

“This is an unfortunate accident that’s happened … these are members of our community so it’s broken our heart,” he told Sunrise.

“I’m going (through) a bit of mixed emotions, obviously because we’ve lost two young kids and I feel for the bus driver as well and the passengers.

“But also … I’m a little bit upset and angry because we have highlighted this issue to the New South Wales government before.”

Two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, died after their motorbike collided with a bus in a dedicated transit way in Bosley Park, Western Sydney.

The crash comes after numerous calls from Carbone for help from the state government to curb e-bike and motorbike usage through the T-way.

Numerous near-misses and collisions with bikes have been reported on the roadway, which is restricted to buses but is often used by riders.

Just in February, a group of bike riders were reportedly “playing chicken with bus drivers” while a crash seriously injured the rider and a pedestrian.

“How many more accidents need to happen before this state government wakes up?” Carbone said.

“This is what happens when the NSW State Government ignores repeated requests for action on illegal e-bikes and motorbikes, which have taken over our T-Way.

“Chris Minns, enough of the media releases. It is time for action.

“Do your job, direct police to act, and respond to the repeated calls our community has been making before someone is seriously injured or worse.”

The weekend prior to the crash, police issued 170 fines to e-bike and e-scooter riders in Sydney’s south.

“While e-bikes are a great mode of transport when ridden safely and most people do comply with the rules, police have seen an increase in illegal or anti-social e-bike rider behaviour,” Superintendent Anthony Boyd said.

“Disappointingly officers saw a number of riders on modified and non-compliant e-bikes and we took appropriate action.

“We urge riders to learn and comply with the law.”

Carbone said “if police can act in Sutherland, then they can act here too”.

“Our community deserves the same attention, the same enforcement and the same urgency before somebody is seriously injured or killed,” he said.
