A 50-second leaked video circulating rapidly across social media has sparked outrage and renewed scrutiny in the investigation into the deadly Swiss bar fire. The footage, which authorities have now confirmed is authentic, appears to show the bar’s owner attempting to grab the cash register and flee as smoke and flames begin to spread—until a shocking moment at the 27-second mark changes the entire narrative.
According to investigators, the video was recorded on a back-of-house security camera positioned near the bar counter. The footage begins with a calm atmosphere, then quickly descends into chaos as smoke becomes visible near the ceiling and alarms begin to sound faintly in the background.
In the first half of the clip, the bar owner is seen moving behind the counter, disconnecting the cash register and lifting it off the surface, glancing repeatedly toward the entrance rather than toward patrons. Several customers can be seen in the background looking confused, some turning toward the exits as conditions worsen.
What has ignited public fury is what happens at exactly 27 seconds.
At that moment, the video shows a group of patrons rushing toward a side exit, only to stop abruptly and turn back. As they do, the bar owner—still holding the cash register—steps in front of the exit area, hesitates, then changes direction and leaves through a different route, effectively abandoning the customers as smoke rapidly thickens.
Investigators reviewing the footage say this moment is critical. “That timestamp aligns with other evidence indicating the first failed escape attempt,” a police source said. “It raises serious questions about priorities and responsibility in those final seconds.”
Fire experts note that seconds matter in smoke-filled environments, and any delay or confusion can prove fatal. Authorities are now examining whether the owner had prior knowledge of blocked exits, delayed alarm activation, or other safety failures that may have contributed to the tragedy.
The video ends with visibility nearly gone, the sound of coughing and shouting growing louder as the camera feed abruptly cuts out.
Police emphasized that the owner has not been formally charged, but confirmed he is being questioned extensively. Legal experts say the footage could play a decisive role in determining potential criminal negligence or civil liability.
Families of the victims were shown the video privately before it went viral. One family member, speaking through a representative, said the footage was “unbearable to watch,” adding, “Seeing someone choose money over people is something we will never forget.”
Authorities have urged the public to stop sharing edited or misleading versions of the clip, warning that context matters and the full investigation is still ongoing. The complete, unaltered footage is now secured as evidence.
As outrage continues to grow online, investigators say the viral video may become one of the most pivotal pieces of evidence yet—capturing, in just 50 seconds, the decisions that may have cost lives.
