Oak Cliff rapper ZeeTheWizard was shot Thursday, Jan.1, outside a new Dallas after-hours club in the Medical District.
According to WFAA, the “Real As They Come” rapper, born Zec’Quire Cannon Grant Fields, was among four people who suffered gunshot wounds in the parking lot in the early hours of Thursday at the Pinkhouse Dallas, an adult after-hours club that had been hosting a grand-opening. Dallas police arrived at the club, located near Empire Central and North Stemmons Freeway, around 3:45 a.m. to a reportedly empty scene.

The rapper’s family confirmed with the media that he was in critical condition.
In 2025, Zee emerged as part of the New Dallas movement alongside co-signs from rap superstars Future, G Herbo and Rod Wave. The Observer recently ranked him as one of the top 25 rappers in Dallas-Fort Worth right now. Last August, he signed a record deal with Future’s Freebandz music label.
BigXThaPlug and other local rap stars often acknowledged ZeeTheWizard’s catchy Southern rap style and motivational music about hustling. Last year’s Hood Prophet, a 9-track mixtape about everyday struggles that come with hustling through neighborhood testimonies, made him one of the brightest stars in today’s local rap scene. Tracks like ”Boss,” “Mob4E Bidnezz,” and “Chevy” have boosted his growth in the scene and beyond.
“Incredibly talented. He had a way with words and was able to impact people,” local attorney and music executive Torrence Burnett told WFAA. “And I think that when we take art, when people who can make that art happen, we’ve got to take it at face value and just enjoy it. I just wish our young black men, especially, would think that you don’t have to be whatever it is that this microcosm says you have to be, if you do hip-hop.”
“They got this bad motherfucker named ZeeTheWizard coming out, that can really take over the whole streets,” said Rainwater, manager of the late Mo3, when asked about the Dallas-Fort Worth scene in a previously recorded interview released by Real Lyfe Street Starz on Thursday.
No arrests have been announced.
