The flight attendant who was ejected from the Air Canada Express plane that crashed at LaGuardia Airport was conscious throughout the fatal incident, according to her daughter.
Solange Tremblay was among dozens of people who survived the crash involving the aircraft and a firetruck on Sunday, March 22, according to a GoFundMe started by her daughter Sarah Lépine.
Tremblay, a senior flight attendant, was sitting in her jump seat “directly behind the cockpit” when the crash occurred, causing her to be ejected, Lépine said.

The flight attendant traveled more than 320 feet, and was “still strapped in her jump seat” when first responders found her lying on the tarmac, according to her daughter, who says her mom “was conscious” the entire time.
Tremblay was severely injured in the crash, sustaining two shattered legs with open fractures, Lépine said, noting that “metal plates are needed to repair the damage done to her legs.”
The flight attendant will also need skin grafts “to repair the missing flesh she lost on her legs while sliding down the tarmac,” according to her daughter.

Additionally, she “sustained a fractured spine” and is waiting to learn if surgery will be required to repair the injury.
Lépine said her mom “has even received a blood transfusion due to complications from her first surgery” and will remain in New York “for the foreseeable future.”
“Her struggles are far from over,” Lépine said in the statement shared on the fundraiser, noting that in addition to the surgeries, Tremblay will require “intensive rehabilitation to learn how to walk again.”

At the moment, however, Lépine said “our greatest fear is the risk of infection which could lead to other horrifying complications if her injuries become infected.”
“My mother dedicated her entire life as a flight attendant, and was very proud of her work,” Tremblay’s daughter said. “She loved serving the public and helping them travel safely from their respective destinations.”
Lépine previously told Quebec’s TVA News that “it’s a complete miracle” that her mom survived the crash, which killed the plane’s two pilots.
“She had a guardian angel watching over her,” Lépine said at the time. “It could have been much worse.”
Nearly $190,000 has been raised through the GoFundMe as of publication time on Monday, March 30.
