Conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel first captured the public’s attention with an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996, instantly charming the audience with their unique story.
The Hensel sisters, born on March 7, 1990, in Minnesota, are dicephalic parapagus twins, meaning they have two heads but share one body.
In 2012, TLC aired the reality series Abby & Brittany. The show documented their experiences as they graduated from Bethel University with degrees in education, traveled through Europe and began their careers as teachers.
Now, nearly 30 years after their life in the spotlight began, Abby and Brittany are fifth-grade teachers and remain determined to lead a normal life. Abby even married her husband, Josh Bowling, in November 2021.
Though they live a relatively quiet life today, Abby and Brittany made headlines in August 2025 when they were spotted with a newborn baby. The sisters have not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment, but they did break their silence with a TikTok video posted days later, sharing the photos and simply writing, “blessed.”
So, where are Abby and Brittany Hensel now? Here’s everything to know about their lives since their show ended in 2012.

Abby and Brittany Hensel are conjoined twins, each controlling one side of their shared body — Abby the right and Brittany the left — while having separate heads, hearts and personalities. The Midwestern sisters, born to parents Patty and Mike, share a bloodstream and all organs below the waist.
When the twins were born, doctors told their parents there was an option to try to separate them, with little chance that both could survive, per TIME. “How could you pick between the two?” Mike said at the time and the couple decided to not separate Abby and Brittany.
Despite their physical limitations, the Hensel twins learned to coordinate their movements, from walking, texting and driving to playing sports.

The Hensel twins gained fame due to their ability to live a relatively normal life despite their extremely rare condition.
In 2008, the twins starred in a documentary titled Joined for Life: Abby & Brittany Turn 16. A few years later, TLC’s Abby and Brittany reality show ran for one season with eight episodes, showing the then-22-year-olds going to university, having a social life, traveling and navigating life as conjoined twins.
“People have been curious about us since we were born, for obvious reasons,” the twins said in the first episode of the show in 2012. “But our parents never let us use that as an excuse. We were raised to believe we could do anything we wanted to do.”
The twins added, “The most amazing thing about us is we are like everyone else.”

Abby made headlines in 2024 when she announced she had married Josh Bowling, a nurse and Army veteran, three years prior.
The twins have since shared glimpses of Abby’s wedding on social media, including in a 2024 recap TikTok featuring footage of Abby and Bowling’s first dance.
They also called out “haters” in late March after receiving attention online about the event. “The internet is extra LOUD today,” Abby and Brittany wrote alongside a TikTok video. Months later, they shared another post captioned, “We know you think you know us.”
After their wedding, Abby became a step-mom to Bowling’s daughter from his first marriage, Isabella. Brittany’s relationship status is unknown.

According to public records, Abby and Brittany live in Minnesota and work as fifth-grade teachers. When they were hired shortly after graduating from college, the twins were given separate contracts and split their one-person pay.
Abby’s “strong points” were math and science, while “Brittany is more focused on the language arts, reading—stuff like that,” they shared on an episode of Abby & Brittany, per E! News.
They’re sometimes spotted engaging in everyday activities and are active on TikTok, where they’ve garnered over 300,000 followers. Otherwise, the Hensels tend to stay out of the spotlight.
Abby’s 2021 marriage and subsequent announcement in 2024 put the twins back in the public eye. They made headlines again in August 2025 when they were photographed carrying a newborn baby. The sisters have yet to confirm if the child is theirs, but they did respond to the photos by sharing them themselves in a video on TikTok.
