Savannah Guthrie is back behind the desk.

The Today co-anchor resumed her duties on the morning show for the first time since her mother Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing at the end of January. As the investigation and search continues, Savannah is back with her colleagues.

“Good morning, welcome to Today on this Monday morning. We are so glad you started your week with us,” she told viewers at the beginning of the April 6 broadcast. “And it is good to be home.”

To which Craig Melvin affirmed, while briefly holding her hand, “Yes, it is good to have you at home.”

Savannah didn’t spend too much time addressing her absence at the start of the show, instead introducing an update on the war in Iran.

“Here we go, ready or not,” she said, “let’s do the news.”

Though this is the first time Savannah has returned to the morning show for a live broadcast since her mother’s suspected abduction, she previously did an interview with former Today coworker Hoda Kotb—who also filled in during Savannah’s absence—during which she detailed her experience of the ordeal.

Chief among the 54-year-old’s emotions during the past two months has been a deep sense of guilt. Savannah previously detailed a conversation she had with her brother Camron Guthrie after their mom was reported missing, during which he affirmed her fear that Nancy’s abduction may have been because of Savannah’s high profile.

During the interview, which aired March 27, she said the suggestion is “too much to bear, to think that I brought this to her bedside, that it’s because of me.”

“If it is me,” Savannah continued, addressing her mom and family directly, “I’m so sorry.”

The TV host also reflected on her eventual return to Today, which she knew would be difficult, as the show’s set is normally “such a place of joy and lightness.”

“I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” she admitted. “But I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now.”

And despite knowing getting back in front of the camera would be difficult, Savannah continued, “I want to smile and when I do, it will be real. My joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer and being there is joyful. And when it’s not, I’ll say so.”

While in conversation with Hoda, Savannah also expressed her gratitude for the support she, Camron, her sister Annie Guthrie and brother-in-law Tomasso Cioni have received.

“I know how much people have prayed for me and loved me,” she reflected, “all the people you see on TV and then all the people that you don’t. All the notes and messages that I have received are just so beautiful.”
