A MAFS UK star has revealed she has gone completely blind in one of her eyes in a terrifying ordeal.

Lara Eyre, who appeared on the show in 2022, has shared the health update after she rushed to hospital – where doctors told her she will need a procedure to fix her eye.

Taking to Instagram to share the news, a shaken Lara, 53, told the camera: “I woke up and I was completely blind in my right eye.

“I went to the emergency room, and they told me, the opticians told me that I have a massive cataract that’s completely covering the back of my lens.”

“And it’s maybe a 12 to 14 week wait to fix it,” said Lara, who was married to Richie Dews on the Channel 4 show.

Continuing that the cataract has actually been caused by medication she has been taking, the reality star appeared emotional in the clip.

Lara, who originally hails from Canada but lives in the UK, said: “It’s because of a medication I’ve been taking for my asthma for years.

“I had no idea this was a side effect, nobody told me that maybe I should be more vigilant or get extra eye checks to make sure I was OK.

“It’s not all the doctor’s fault because in these packets there’s these little pamphlets and they tell you all the side effects of the medications that you take, that you think are going to make you better but could actually hurt you.”

As Lara warned others of these side effects, she shed a tear and said: “It’s been really scary and I’m definitely gonna start reading all my medications from now on.”

Fellow MAFS star Anita Barker, who appeared on the most recent series, shared support for Lara in the post’s comment section as she wished her a quick recovery.

While show star Emma Barnes also sent her support.

Despite being initially told it was a 12 to 14 week wait, Lara shared an update to her Instagram following her initial video.

Revealing she got a second opinion from another doctor, the reality star broke down in tears as she confirmed the NHS had managed to get her an emergency appointment this week.

Lara rose to fame four years ago on reality show MAFS as she was matched with guitarist Richie.

However, the pair’s marriage quickly crumbled on-screen as they failed to make things work.

She went public with her new boyfriend last year.
